The “Lady Cougars” from Calhoun County opened up the game with an 8-0 run getting two baskets each from freshman Chakira Sheppard and sophomore Shanon Coleman. Coleman scored again to push the lead up to 10-0 forcing Lakeview to call a timeout with 5:16 left in the quarter. After the timeout the “Lady Lions” from Lakeview went on a mini run of their own getting baskets from sophomore Lydiann Jacobs, and seniors Chelsey Chastin and Hannah Bennett to cut the lead to 10-6.
Sheppard continued to be impressive inside for Calhoun County knocking down a pair of free-throws. The “Lady Cougars” pressure continued to cause Lakeview problems, a steal and basket by Sheppard made the score 14-6 forcing another Lakeview timeout. Each time it appeared as if Calhoun County was going to start running away with the game Lakeview would come back; Chastin’s basket cut the lead to 16-12 at the end of the 1st quarter.

Calhoun County’s point guard junior Joe Donna Molden continued to do a great job of running the “Lady Cougars” attack; she made a sweet drive to the basket at the start of the 2nd quarter to give Calhoun County an 18-12 lead. Lakeview started taking the ball inside forcing Calhoun County to start fouling, four free-throws 2 each by Dianna Briggs and Jacobs pulled Lakeview to within six, 28-22 with 2:52 left in the half. Molden ended the half with a nice flurry drilling a pair of jumpers to give the “Lady Cougars” a 30-22 halftime lead.
Calhoun County didn’t rest on the lead they came out in the 3rd quarter pressing, a steal by Sheppard resulted in a basket by Coleman making the score 35-24. Lakeview’s Hannah Bennett played very well, doing a nice job inside, her basket and a jumper by Briggs pulled the “Lady Lions” to within nine 37-28.

The teams continued to trade baskets back and forth until Calhoun County went on a run behind the play of senior Brittany Martin, who got off to a slow start playing on an injured knee. A fastbreak basket by Coleman gave Calhoun County their largest lead of the game 41-28 forcing a Lakeview timeout with 4:05 left in the quarter. Each time Lakeview had gotten close they would miss a shot or turn the ball over. A 6-0 run culminated with a buzzer beater by Molden opened up a 48-34 lead at the end of the quarter.
With a 14 point lead heading into the final quarter Calhoun County started running a weaver to take some time off of the clock. Turnovers continued to haunt Lakeview as they fell further behind. Despite her injured knee Martin still managed to play tough in the paint, her assist to freshman Kiswanna Eafford gave the “Lady Cougars” a 55-41 lead. Molden finished off a great game with a sweet pass to Eafford as Calhoun County went on to a convincing 61-43 win to advance to Saturday’s Class A Championship game against Terrell County.

Shanon Coleman scored a game high 18 points to pace the “Lady Cougars”. Kiswanna Eafford and Joe Donna Molden scored 14 and 13 points respectively. Brittany Martin finished with 11 points.
Lakeview Academy
Hannah Bennett led the “Lady Lions” with 13 points. Chelsey Chastin scored 10, Lydiann Jacobs 8 and Dianna Briggs chipped in with 6 points.
