5-A (Boys) Final Four
Newton “Rams” vs. Wheeler “Wildcats”
Gwinnett Arena – Duluth, GA
Wildcats Scratch The Rams
Welcome to the wild Wild West at the Gwinnett Arena, were they are taking no names and players are wanted dead or alive. The Wheeler High “Wildcats” would enter the game with super confidence against the Newton “Rams”, coming off the biggest upset of the year with a win over number one South Gwinnett “Comets”. The Wildcats would be powered by senior point guard Shaurd Curry (Floor General), who would light it up from downtown. Very undersized, the Newton “shooting guards” would come in looking to make a push for the finals behind the scoring of Jerrell Boswell and Todd Hoskins. Would it be a blow out or a close game?
In the first quarter, Newton would get the tip and Todd Hoskins would score the first basket of the game to get Newton out front. Wheeler David Gonzalvez would answer back with a three and the three-point contest would begin. James Florence would get a steal and a put back for Wheeler, followed by a three-pointer to close his own 5-0 run. The quarter would end with the score, Wheeler15 Newton 8.
In the second quarter, Wheeler would come out scorching. Sharaud Curry would score the first 2 points to launch a 20-2 run. Curry would follow with a three-pointer and teammate J.T. Tiller would play horse, following with a three pointer of his own. Curry would score a quarter high 8 points and Wheeler would be too much. The Wildcats would go into the half allowing Newton to score only 2 points in the quarter. At the half the score would be Wheeler 33 Newton 10.
With 3:45 left in the fourth quarter, Wheelers coach Doug Lipscomb would pull his starters and that would call it a night. Final Score: Wheeler 75 Newton 48.
