Division AAAAA – Collins Hills vs Stephenson

5-A (Girls) Final Four

Collins Hill “Lady Eagles” vs Stephenson “Lady Jaguars”

Arena At Gwinnett – Duluth, GA

Collins Hill gets revenge

Maya Moore blocks out Jasmine Smith during final four game.
The Lady Eagles of Collins Hill had it all planned from day one of their 2004-05 basketball season, and they executed their plan to it’s fullest.

Maya Moore gave the Stephenson Lady Jaguars a whole lot more than they expected or could handle to give coach Angie Hembree and her soaring Lady Eagles a 64-49 blowout victory on Thursday evening at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth.

The action between Collins Hill and Stephenson was gruesome to say the least.
The Center at Gwinnett could have saved on the electricity bill as the 6-0 sophomore lit up the house with a light so bright it blinded the Lady Jaguars as she killed them posting a double-double scoring 28 points from everywhere on the court and pulling down 13 rebounds

The Lady Eagles outscored Stephenson in every period except the first shooting 24-of-32 from the field and 13-of-17 from the charity stripe.

“As you all know, we’re excited to get this one under our belt,” said Hembree. “But we can’t treat this like it was a championship game because it wasn’t, and that’s what we want.”

Collins Hill defenders get all over Stephenson attempt.
There’s not much to say, except BAM!!! That was the roar from the crowd every time Moore, Greteya Kelley or Shantell Black launched missiles from the parking lot to mesmerize the Stephenson girls into a hypnotic comatose.

Not surprisingly Stephenson led in the first period by three points, 21-18, and went in at the half with a 31-29 lead. That would be the last time they would have any sort of vision of light at the end of a long dark and cold tunnel.

Moore came out in the second half like a crazed eagle who had found someone or something poking around in her nest. She stepped onto the court and looked around with a look in her eyes that said don’t mess with my babies.

Moore dropped in 17 of her game high points in the fourth period to send notice to the Jaguar faithful that the Eagles were on a mission to thwart any thoughts of anyone ever attempting to dominate them.

The Jaguars got strong efforts from 5-11 sophomore Kirstyn Wright who led her team in scoring with 11, but the Lady Eagles shut 6-0 junior forward Jasmine Smith completely down rendering her scoreless in the contest.

Collins Hill outscored Stephenson 35-18 in the second half to get them to where they most wanted to be, in contention for another state title after taking a hiatus from the limelight of being the top 5-A girls’ team in the of Georgia.
