Westside Macon “Lady Seminoles” vs. Etowah “Lady Eagles”

Eagles Fly High For The Championship
The state finals game between the “Lady Seminoles” of Westside Macon versus the Etowah “Lady Eagles” was rated 2 of the girls best basketball teams in class 4-A. The Lady Seminoles would be powered by senior point guard 5’6 Shan Corbett, senior shooting guard 5'9 L’Teisha Holloway and mandated in the post with senior Sina Hilbert. Etowah would counter the act with height. The 6’3 freshman Lindsey Mason and 5’10 shooting guard Tiauna Brantley who would supply the points for the Lady Eagles. Both teams would get off to a fast start to what would be a great state final.
Off the opening tip the Lady Eagles would get off to a 7-0 run with baskets from Nicole Frechette and Brantley. Having scored no points in the first quarter the Lady Seminoles would take charge with a 8-0 run to take the lead with 2:26 left in the first quarter. Corbert would score a quarter high 6 points and teammate Hilbert would hit the boards for 4 rebounds for the Lady Seminoles. (First Quarter: Westside Macon 14 Etowah 11)
In the second quarter, the Lady Seminoles would stay on a run. Sprinting the floor for the easy put back seemed like the plan. Holloway came alive with consecutive jumpers and Cobert would score on lay ups. The Lady Eagles would regain the lead for the second time since the first quart on a lay up from Tagan Hatchett with 4:27 left in the second quarter 21-20. The Lady Seminoles would quickly retake the lead on a basket in the post by Hilbert and a jumper from Colbert. The Lady Eagles would go into the half down 5 points to the score 31-26.
(Shan Corbett would finish with 12 points in the first half for the Lady Seminoles and Lindsey Mason would score 8 points for the Lady Eagles.)
In the third quarter, Etowahs Lisa Gaunder would hit a three-pointer from downtown Duluth to tie the game at 33 all with 4:45 left in the quarter. Teammate Nicole Frenchette would score her fourth point of the quarter to put the Lady Eagles up by 2 points and the quarter would be a great one. (Third Quarter: Westside Macon 39 Etowah 43)
Excellent free throw shooting by Etowah and turnovers by Westide Macon would describe the fourth quarter. The Lady Eagles would increase the lead on every possession and go on to win the girls 4-A state championship.
