AAAA – Stone vs Westside-Macon

4-A Girls Final Four

Stone Mountain Pirates” vs Westside-Macon “Seminoles”

The Arena At Gwinnett – Duluth, GA

Pirates succomb to Seminoles

Westside-Maco Jelisa Caldwell goes in for easy basket.
The Lady Pirates of Stone Mountain shot out of the shoot with junior forward Leslie Phillips leading the attack dumping in eight points, four more than the Westside-Macon Seminoles could conjure for the entire first period of play in the Georgia state final four playoffs held at the Gwinnett arena on Wednesday.

The Pirates couldn’t maintain their dominance during the second period because of the three point attack lodged by senior guard Shan Corbett and freshman JaRhonda Davis. Three pointers weren’t the only contributions the young Davis provided for the Seminoles, coming off the bench to stage an assault against Stone Mountain on the offensive and defensive boards.

Stone Mountain's Leanne Watson establish postion underneath.
Despite the performance Davis put on in the period, the Pirates maintained their lead to take a 24-15 lead in at the half on the play of junior forward Leanne Watson that left the onlookers with the impression that Stone Mountain had this one in the bag.

Westside-Macon came out in the second period with a renewed spirit as sophomore guard Jelisa Caldwell along with seniors L’Teisha Holloway, Nikia Trice and Sina Hilbert stepping up their game to lead the Lady Seminoles on an 18-8 run in the third period to give them their first lead of the contest as the period ended with the Lady Seminoles out front by one, 33-22.

Stone Mountain came out in the final period wanting desperately to regain their lead and put some distance between them and the Lady Seminoles with Phillips and junior Angelique Gray taking charge, but their efforts weren’t good enough to offset the Seminoles’ point blank shooting by Trice and Holloway giving the Ladies from Macon a 51-47 victory to advance to the championship game against Etowah.
