Not Old Enough To Work

The commissioner of the NBA David Stern is pushing hard for an age limit that would require players to be at least 20 years old to be drafted. Some NBA officials believe the increase in underclassman entering the draft has hurt the pro game. The player union agrees to disagree that there are only a few group of players that are “NBA” ready to make that leap. Not only is the league hurting but the college game is suffering also.

UGA or NBA quote L.A.

How many nights does University of Georgia head coach Dennis Fulton pray that Louis Williams (South Gwinnett) would put on a bulldog uniform and bring the fan favorites something to cheer for again. How many hours does Mississippi States head coach Rick Stansbury spend believing the lost of star forward Lawrence Roberts could be ease by the presents of star guard Monta Ellis (Lanier High School) on campus draining three pointers in SEC play than in the league. What if Gerald Green (Gulf Shores Academy) doesn’t drop 24 points in the McDonalds All American game; does Oklahoma State University head coach Eddie Sutton sleep better? All these questions and more can be posed by many, but where does the truth lie.

How can the league set up an age limit and run the risk of never laying eyes on players like a Lebron James, Amare Stoudemire, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett. Even when players such as Venus Williams, Tiger Woods and others are able to turn professional in there respected sports. The standard doesn’t stand up. So what. Who are we to say?

We are to say the jump to the NBA is an academic scapegoat for players who are academically challenged (Hmmm). Shawn Kemp and Hall of fame player Moses Malone are two of the greatest players to make the jump to the NBA and be successful but who is to say how well they would have perform in Chemistry 410.

No matter the reason. A kid can enter the military to defend his country at 18 but can’t employ a job with a NBA franchise to feed his family for whatever reason. (Hmm, The conflict of interest)

Whether or not the rule is pass, the world forever turns and the great sport of basketball will thrive on. The land of dreams and equal opportunity stills exist, it just has its challenges.

I think if you can do it and the opportunity presents itself, get it while you're hot. Why not? You can always go back to college, I don't belive Duke University is going no where.

Until next time, that’s just what Kut thinks.
