Hornets sting field to win Class A Championship
Jefferson, GA

Class 1A
The “Hornets” from Pelham H.S. did enough stinging on Friday and Saturday to come away with the schools 1st State Track & Field Championship. Led by doubles winner Darien Clayton (High Jump and Triple Jump) Pelham was able to score 63 points holding off Johnson County who finished 2nd with 46 points. The gold by Clayton in the High Jump was a repeat performance from last year when he cleared 6’-7” to finish first.

Treutlen High School’s Cornelius Harris who was named the 4SHOT Sports “Co-Most Outstanding Performer” in Class A returned to once again lay-claim to being the fastest man Class A by capturing his second 100 Meters Title and just to make sure everyone knew he went out and won gold in the 200 Meters as well.

Landmark Christian Academy once dominated Class A winning 7 straight state titles and one big reason was they owned the middle and distance events. Well some things never seem to change as the War Eagle’s Will Bonn who was named the 4SHOT Sports “Co-Most Outstanding Performer” in Class A captured gold in both the 1600 and 3200 Meters just as he did in last years meet.

Other state champions who repeated as gold metal winners include Johnson County’s Brad Moorman who won the 110 High Hurdles and Pelham’s Shon Atkins finished second, but Atkins returned later to win his gold medal in the 300 Intermediate Hurdles.  Atlanta International’s Aymerick Kolokilagi in the Shot Put and Calhoun County’s 1600 Meter Relay Team.

Central Talbotton’s Albert Dozier who had to settle for a silver metal last year in the High Jump came up short again this year taking home another silver metal but he redeemed himself by capturing the gold in the Long Jump.
