Carrollton romps the State Track Title

Jefferson, GA

The “Trojans” from Carrollton High School placed 2 double winners on the victory stand as they outscored second place Monroe High School by 22 points to win the Class AAA Track & Field Championship.

Tony Farris who was named the 4SHOT Sports “Co-Most Outstanding Performer” in Class 3A squeezed out wins in the 100 and 200 Meters, while teammate Trey Flecther who was named the other 4SHOT Sports “Co-Most Outstanding Performer” ran two big time races in the 110 and 300 Meter Hurdles to win gold. Kevin Dix who won the Triple Jump captured the other Carrollton individual gold metal. The interruption in the “Trojans” sprint domination came in the form of Monroe’s powerful 400 Meter star Ricardo Lockette who ran away from the field to win his gold metal.

Kirk Carter (Oconee Co.) and Marquis Pope (Banneker) battled for 2 laps in the 800 Meters before Capt. Kirk turned on the warp speed over the last 20 yards to win the race. Pope did win his gold metal capturing the 1600 Meter crown.

West Hall’s Josh Bagley went above and beyond the call of duty when he soared 7’-0” to out jump Franklin County’s Matt Heaton who cleared 6’-10” as he took home the gold metal. The jump earned Bagley the “Sonny Poss Trophy” for the best jump of the day.

The quartet of Willie Tarver, Kenneth Mitchell, Kevin Lowe and Eddie Rush roared around the track to give the Westlake “Lions” a victory in the 4x100 Meter Relay. Monroe High out of Albany, GA got strong efforts from football star Terrance Ransom (Albany State signee), Jamel Smith, Patrick Brown and 400 Meter champ Ricardo Lockette to win gold in the 4x400 Relay.

Casey Herndon (Franklin Co.) failed in his attempt to repeat in the Pole Vault taking home the silver medal, the gold went to Oconee County’s Jordan Scott who cleared 16’-6”. Albert Cox (Banneker) was also unable to repeat in his effort to capture the Shot Put for a second straight year loosing out to Marcus Washington from Burke County High School.
