From Star to Hurricane... (On Da Bricks)

Wesley Mincey of Dunwoody High School is part of the two-headed backcourt with teammate Kierre Jordan that forms a lethal combination for opposing teams. The combo guard was named to 4SHOT Sports 2005 Honorable Mention team.

Wes was a crucial part of a revenge statement made as part of the 2004-2005 Class AAA state champions for the State of Georgia. Also, help implement the plan that helped his school capture the 2004 And 1 National Championship. Mincey average around 7 points per game along with 8 assist seems to seat well with his high school coach Scott Bracco.

Wes would take the time out of his schedule to hang out on the Da Bricks for an update on what’s happening in his life and what’s going on during the summer.

Kut: Who would you say is most influential person in your life?

Wes: My mother (Wanda), she keeps me grounded. Every time I step on the court, I go hard for her and that’s whom I work for.

Kut:  In 2004 your high school Dunwoody team went undefeated all season to come up short in the state final four to Butler high school out of Savannah. This year 2005, you guys finished the drill with the state ring. Tell me about that?

Wes:  It feels great. We fell short last year and everybody took it hard. So we all rededicated ourselves to getting back in the gym, work harder and we pulled it off. It feels great.

Kut: What’s does it mean to play AAU ball and what’s the difference?

Wes:  Everything. It’s an opportunity to showcase your talent. In AAU you have to go hard because guys are coming hard at you. The game is not as organize. It’s more of a run and shoot type flow. Everyone has a good time and you do what you got to do to hopeful get a scholarship.

Kut: Nike or Reebok?

Wes:  Nike

Kut: What’s your favorite food?

Wes:  Chili Cheese Fries

Kut: Who’s your favorite player in the NBA and why?

Wes:  Allen Iverson. He holds it down for the little guys.

Kut:  Roca-Wear or Sean John?

Wes: Roc

Kut: Beginning of the AAU season you started with the Georgia Stars and at the end you finish with the Georgia Hurricanes. So everybody wants to know how did you go from Star to Hurricane.

Wes: I’ll tell you about it in 4SHOT Hoops Magazine in November.

Kut: Thanks for hanging out with me on Da Bricks.

Wes: No problem. Thanks.
