Dougherty overcomes poor shooting to beat Albany

The “Lady Squaws” from Albany High School and “Lady Trojans” from Dougherty High School squared off in the first game of a 4 game schedule at the Albany Civic Center as the 2005-06 basketball season got underway in Albany, GA.
Dougherty under the direction of their long time Head Coach Carlene Jackson opened the game with a 6-0 and out-rebounded Albany to take an 11-2 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.
The game slowed to a crawl in the 2nd quarter as both teams played like it was the first game of the season missing several easy baskets. Albany’s Bridney Roberson did a nice job in the quarter grabbing a pair of rebounds while making 3 steals. Teammate Catharyn Clyde also did a nice job on defense with 3 steals and 2 rebounds but again they missed too many easy baskets. Dougherty continued to dominated the play inside as the held the “Lady Squaws” at bay. Amanda McDonald (4) and Tiffany Anderson (3) accounted for 7 of the 11 rebounds Dougherty pulled down in the quarter as they took a 13-5 halftime lead.

Albany’s continued to struggle putting the ball in the basket scoring 7 points in the 3rd quarter as they fell further behind. Anderson continued to play well for Dougherty scoring 6 points and adding 3 more rebounds and steals to her game totals to help the “Lady Trojans” take a 31-12 third quarter lead.
Dougherty’s Adrienne Alls finished off a nice game and the “Lady Squaws” scoring 5 forth-quarter points as the “Lady Trojans” went on to an 44-18 opening season win.

Adrienne Alls scored a game high 16 points to go along with her 6 rebounds to lead Dougherty. Tiffany Anderson finished with 10 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals. Rosalyn Harris and LaQuanta Spurlin each chipped in with 4 points.
Albany:
Bridney Roberson did a nice job for Albany finishing with 6 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Shanti Childs put in some work on the boards grabbing 7 rebounds.
