Loop Lee Sports Holiday Classic - 7th Place Game
Holy Innocents’ vs. Towers Rogers the real deal
Parkview High School – Lilburn, GA
 |
| Alexis Rogers from Holy Innocents' led all scorers with 27 points. |
Holy Innocents’ held on to defeat Towers to capture 7th Place in the Loop/Lee Sports Holiday Classic (formerly known as the Southern Company Gas Tournament); but the real story in this tournament for Holy Innocents’ and Head Coach Liz Kennedy was the coming out party of Alexis Rogers, a 6-0 freshman who finished off an outstanding tournament scoring 27 points.
Towers got 4 points each from Quanneisha Perry and Jasmine Pitts in the 1st quarter but a balanced scoring attack by the “Lady Golden Bears” led by Alexis Rogers 4 points gave Holy Innocents’ a 14-10 lead.
Rogers dominated the 2nd quarter of play like a seasoned veteran scoring inside and out; she even drained a three-pointer on her way to a 9-point quarter as Holy Innocents’ opened up a 25-18 halftime lead.
In the 3rd quarter Perry, who was a 4SHOT Hoops All-Star selection last season showed why as she starting dominating the paint scoring 8 points to keep Towers within striking range. Coach Kennedy rested her prize freshman most of the quarter so the scoring load fell on 6-2 sophomore Kylee Marx-Booth who responded with 7 points as Holy Innocents’ increased their lead to 40-29.
 |
| Towers Quanneisha Perry scored 23 points in the loss. |
Perry and Rogers continued to dominate the game for their respective teams in the final stanza. Needing to force the action with his team trailing late in the game Towers Head Coach Johnny Toombs had his team start applying full court pressure. Knowing that the “Lady Titans” were going to have to start fouling Coach Kennedy put the ball in the hands of Rogers and she came through knocking down 8 of 9 free-throws as Holy Innocents’ came away with the 53-42 win.
