Trojans Slip by the Patriots

Demarro Nelson finished in double figures

Berkmar High SchoolNorcross, GA

Demarro Nelson vs. Cameron Hubbard / Nelson snatches one of his game high 12 rebounds over Richard Walker.
Demarro Nelson will have a lot of the Trojans followers saying “Tay Spann who?” Nelson holds it down in the paint and Banneker doesn’t miss a beat. The Trojans would make a stop in Gwinnett County to put the Berkmar Patriots to the test.

Richard Walker would have a monster block in the paint to start the game but would not be a factor after that, due to picking up 2 quick fouls sending him to the bench. With Berkmars big man out of the middle the Trojans would appear to have their way. Banneker would get out on an 11-2 run to start the game with scoring from Nelson, Robert Jackson and Cordero Ivory. Demarro would account for 7 of Bannekers 11 points in the first along with a period high of 6 rebounds. Berkmar could only muster 6 points in the period and the Patriots hopeful would begin to worry.

In the second period Bannekers Nelson would continue to score in the paint with Walker out and dominate on the boards. Before you knew it the Trojans were on an 8-0 run. Berkmars first points of the second period would come at 4:33 when Ben Sharp would nail a three-pointer from downtown to get the Patriots on a roll to close the half down by only 7 points to the score 25-18.

In the fourth period Bannekers Alfred Burley would come off the Bench to nail 2 three-pointers to give the Trojans a cushion. The cushion wouldn't be enough for Berkmars Patrick Shopeka would come alive himself. Patrick would score 11 of his game high 18 points in the period and Walker would return from a scoreless first half to chip in 6 points. Berkmar would go on an 8-2 run to close the gap as close as 2 points on a reverse lay up by Patrick with 1:30 left to the score 45-43. Just when things got close, Walker would foul out for Berkmar and clutch free throw shooting from the line by the Trojans would seal the deal. Kut Note: closer than it seem.

Final Score:  Banneker 51 Berkmar 48
