Bulldogs overtake Rams

Boswell wins the battle but Colvin wins the war

Lithonia H.S. Gymnasium - Lithonia, GA

Lithonia’s Chris Colvin (a S.E. Louisiana signee, Ranked #17 by 4SHOT Hoops) scored 12 points.
Two of 4SHOT Hoops top ballers Lithonia’s Chris Colvin (a S.E. Louisiana signee, Ranked #17) and Newton’s Jerrell Boswell (Ranked #22) squared off in a game at Lithonia. Boswell may have won the scoring battle with a game high 16 points but it was Colvin’s big basket down the stretch that gave his “Bulldogs” a 40-37 win. Colvin finished with 12 points to lead Lithonia.

The players were just as cold inside as the weather was outside and I would like to say that defense had something to do with it but it didn’t. Boswell hit a three-pointer and scored 5 of Newton’s 7 points in the 1st quarter. Head Coach Lewis Jones’ “Bulldogs” only faired a little better getting 6 points from up and comingjunior Deonta Stocks and 5 points from junior Cordelius Hutchins as they took an 11-7 lead.

Newton’s Jerrell Boswell (Ranked #22 by 4SHOT Hoops) scored a game high 16 points.
The roles of the two teams reversed in the 2nd quarter as Newton picked up their scoring pace. Boswell drained his second three-pointer and Rashad Gill and Troy Jones started crashing the boards for the “Rams”. Colvin who was the leading scorer in DeKalb County last season scored his first point of the game but it took a three-pointer by Roberto Lyons to get keep Lithonia on top 19-18 at the half.

Colvin and Boswell finally gave the fans a little tasted of their anticipated match-up as they took turns trading baskets, each scored 6 points in the quarter. Gill who had done a nice job on the boards for Newton showed that he could also step outside as he knocked down a three-pointer helping the “Rams” take a 29-27 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Deonta Stocks scores over Newton's Marcus Ford.
With 1:46 left to play in the game Colvin converted a three-point play to put Lithonia on top 36-35. Boswell came right back and scored putting Newton back on top 37-36. With :44 seconds on the clock Hutchins who did a nice job down the stretch of handling the ball made a nice assist to 6-4 Kevin Davis another good looking junior from Lithonia for a 38-37 lead. Stocks who took an ill-advised shot a few seconds earlier made up for the play with a basket that sealed a 40-37 Lithonia win.
