South Atlanta upends Washington
Diamond’s 4 three-pointers lead the way
Columbia H.S. - Decatur, GA
It has been a long season for the “Lady Hornets” from South Atlanta but they found a little something to keep them going as they came from behind to beat the “Lady Bulldogs” from Washington.
Trailing by 2 at the half South Atlanta opened up the 3rd quarter with a mini run that was spearheaded by Diamond McNair’s three-pointer. The “Lady Hornets” Kashina Raven also did some damage on both ends of the court making a couple of steals that led to easy baskets and a 24-21 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter.
Washington controlled the boards for the most part but they missed several easy baskets inside. N. Collins did all she could to help keep the “Lady Bulldogs” close making a sweet spin move to score cutting South Atlanta’s lead to 27-25.
But in the end the “Diamond” (Diamond McNair) that South Atlanta was wearing was glowing too brightly as the junior drilled her 3rd and 4th three-pointers of the game as the “Lady Hornets” went on to end Washington’s season with a 32-27 win advancing them to the 2nd round of the sub-region tourney.

Columbia holds off Forest Park
Reynolds scores 25 despite feeling ill
Columbia H.S. - Decatur, GA
What appeared to be a mismatch on paper in the favor of Columbia turned out to be anything but as Forest Park came to within a minute of upsetting the home-standing “Lady Eagles”.
It seems like every time a player enters a big game not feeling well they somehow rise to the occasion and that’s exactly what Columbia’s Brittany Reynolds did. Feeling the effect of a bad cold Reynolds came out and scored all 8 of the “Lady Eagles” 1st quarter points helping them to an 8-4 lead.
In the 2nd quarter Forest Park’s good-looking junior Shenice Price got busy scoring 7 points as the “Lady Panthers” cut into the lead. Columbia’s senior Simone Smith puts in a full day every time she hits the floor, she matched Price’s 7 points to help Columbia take a 21-17 lead into the half.
Price continued to be a problem for Columbia in the 3rd quarter as she added 8 more points to her total and pulled Forest Park to within three 30-27 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
In the 4th quarter Columbia looked like they might start pulling away but with about 4:50 left to play Forest Park guard Kathleen Sengsauath took a walk into the “MATRIX” as she drilled 3 straight three-pointers to give the “Lady Panthers” a 39-38 lead.
Columbia regained their composure and went on a mini run, getting baskets from Smith, Reynolds and a big three-point play by S. Doyle for a 45-40 lead with 1:49 to play.
With :32 seconds left in the game Price drilled a three-pointer cutting the lead to 47-43 but that would be as close as they would get as Columbia held on for the 47-43 win, advancing into the 2nd round on Friday night.
