L.A. “Keeping it Real” with Shaday “Day-Day” Woolcock
Avondale H.S. has some of the best individual talent in the state of Georgia and one of the best juniors in the state, Shaday “Day-Day” Woolcock is one of those players. So impressed was Georgia Tech with Woolcock that they offered her a scholarship after her sophomore season. I caught up with the 5-10 junior and got a chance to sit down with her and “Keep it Real”.
L.A.: “Who have been some of the most influential people in your life so far”?
Shaday: “My mother, my aunt, and my coaches”
L.A.: “How long have you actually been playing basketball?”
Shaday: “Since the age of 5”
L.A.: “What has been one of the most disappointing moments or times so far in your career?
Shaday: “I’d have to say losing last year in the playoffs. That was our second year in a row finishing in the elite 8 and I had just expected more.”
L.A.: “What about some of the high points in your career so far?
Shaday: “That would have to be committing to Georgia Tech as a sophomore.”
L.A.: “What do you think you need to do to get yourself ready for the next level of basketball?”
Shaday: “I would like to get in better shape and become a little stronger. (hit the weight roomJ)”
L.A.: “What position would you like to play at the next level?”
Shaday: “1 or 2. It doesn’t really matter.”
L.A.: What is the strongest part of your game?
Shaday: “My coaches say my defensive intensity but I also think that I have a great advantage by being a taller guard. I can shoot over defenders and drive.”
L.A.: “What type of personal and or team goals have you set for this season?”
Shaday: “Personally, my goal is to just get better and better everyday. Team wise, our goal is to get a championship ring.”
L.A.: “Who has been one of the toughest players you have had to guard?”
Shaday: “I’d have to say Maya Moore during an AAU tournament last summer.”
L.A.: “Tell me something about yourself that people wouldn’t know by just looking at you?
Shaday: “Ummmmmmm……..I guess they probably wouldn’t know that I’m a 4.0 student.”
L.A.: “Do you have a nickname?”
Shaday: “Yeah. DAY-DAY”
L.A.: “What AAU Team do you play for and how does summer ball (AAU) differ from high school ball?”
Shaday: “I play for the Georgia Hoopstars with Jonathan “JD” Davis. It’s a big difference. AAU is more fast pace, we play more competition, and we travel a whole lot.”
L.A.: “If you could meet anyone in the world who would it be and why? “
Shaday: “I’d have to Michael Jordan, simply because he’s a legend and even though he is out of the league now, he has done what all these other ball players are trying to do. And because he produces my favorite type of shoes J”
L.A.: “I’m going to throw out some word comparisons and I want you to choose one, Nike, Reebok or Adidas?”
Shaday: “Nike”

Shaday:”106@park and Love & Basketball”
L.A.: ”What type of music do you listen to and who is your favorite performer?”

L.A.: “What do you like to do when you are not playing basketball?”
Shaday: “SHOP”
L.A.: “Thanks for taking the time for a little Street Talk and good luck!”
