L.A. “Keeping it Real” with Jylisa Williams

Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain, GA has one of the top girls programs in the state of Georgia and they have turned out some outstanding talent, like Ashley Thomas a sophomore starter at LSU. Well you can look to add Jylisa Williams to that list. The young sophomore has a chance before she leaves Stephenson to be the best player to ever come out of the program. Here’s what the young baller had to say when we sat down for a session of  “Keeping it Real”

L.A.:  “Who have been some of the most influential people in your life”?

Jylisa: “I would have to say my mom and most of my aunts and uncles.”

L.A.:  “What has been one of the most memorable moments of your career so far?
Jylisa: “Last year when we won region, it was one of the first real championships I had ever experienced.”

L.A.:  “What moment(s) would you most like to forget so far in your career?
Jylisa: “The last quarter of the Final Four game of our 04-05 season vs. Collins Hill.”

L.A.: “What is the strongest part of your game?
Jylisa: “I would say my intensity towards the team and the way I run the floor.”

L.A.:   “What part of your game do you think you need to work on to be ready at the next level ?”

Jylisa: “My dribbling and my jump shot could use some work.”

L.A.:  “What type of personal and or team goals did you set heading into the season?”

Jylisa: “I said to myself that I would play every game like it’s the state championship.”

L.A.:  “Who has been one of the toughest players you have had to guard?”
Jylisa: “When we went to Arizona, we played a team named St. Mary's, I can't remember her name but her number was 23 (Jacki Gemelos, who will play in the 2006 McDonald’s All-American game believe it.). She gave me a run for my money the whole game.”

L.A.:  “Without tipping your hand, give me the names of some colleges that you wouldn’t mind playing for?”

Jylisa: “UNC, Alabama State, Jacksonville State University, Auburn,..... those are a few”

Jylisa last year as a "Rookie"
L.A.: “If you were not playing basketball what would you be doing now?”
Jylisa: “I would be running track or playing soccer.”

L.A.: “Tell me something about yourself that people wouldn’t know by just looking at you?

Jylisa: “I am a very funny person and cool to be around and talk to.”

L.A.: “How does summer ball (AAU) differ from the regular season and which do you prefer (AAU or Regular Season)?”
Jylisa: ” I would say AAU is more of a free style league where you let your one-on-one skills be seen, regular season is more organized with a play for every time you come up the court.”

L.A.: “Most AAU Teams have players that play in their natural position unlike in high school where most players are out of position. Is 2G your natural position or would you prefer to play some point and where would you prefer to play at the next level?”

Jylisa: “Regularly I play 3G/small forward but when coach needs me to step up and be a 2 then I get the job done. I really wasn't looking at the point because of my ability to want to score but that is my motivation for working on my dribbling for the next level. “

L.A.:  “What do you want to be when you grow up?”

Jylisa: “To tell you the truth, I'm getting my thoughts together right now because I'm really not sure.”

L.A.: “Are you a Player or BALLER, now 4SHOT we think Players just go out on the court and play like every other player on the court. Now a BALLER takes over the game, not in a selfish way but there at “a whole nother’ level?”

Jylisa: “I would definitely say that I am a BALLER, my love for the game won't let me just be a PLAYER.”

L.A.:  “If you could meet anyone in the world (past or present) who would it be and why?

Jylisa: “My grandfather, I have heard so many good inspirational things about him, and I know his thoughts and advice would help my career excel.”

L.A:  “What’s your favorite food?”
Jylisa: “Meat Loaf with a lot of ketchup on the side.”

L.A.:  “Who’s your favorite player ?”
Jylisa: “Kobe Bryant”

L.A.:  “Who’s your favorite team?”

Jylisa: “Detroit Pistons”

L.A.: “What is your favorite TV Show and Movie?”
Jylisa: “Family Guy/ Love and Basketball”

L.A.: “What type of music do you like and do you have a favorite artist or group?”

Jylisa: “I love R&B and Rap music. My nickname is "JEEZY" so I would say that he is my favorite artist.”

L.A.: “Jylisa, thank you for you time, it has been my pleasure to be able to “Keep It Real” with you.”
Jylisa: “Thank you and I will take your advice into mind.”
