Region 6-5A

Championship Game

Wheeler vs. Cherokee

Wildcats scratch the Warriors

The closest it’s been all year

The Longhorn Corral – Kell High School – Marietta, GA

J.J. Hickson rank number 3 amongst Juniors battles it out with the 6 ranked sopohmore Chris Singleton. (All rankings via 4SHOT Hoops)
The 4SHOT Hoops number one team in the state of Georgia, Wheeler would take on a Warrior team from Cherokee High in the regional finals for a night to remember. Coach Doug Lipscomb (In my opinion one of the greatest coaches living) would have his Wildcat team ready for battle to gain its fifth regional title in 7 years. The team full of D-1 prospects would roll pass little Cherokee into the state playoffs. Hold up, it didn’t happen that way!

6’8 super sophomore Chris Singleton would power the Warriors. Chris would finish the game with 13 points, 9 blocks, along with teammates Wes Jones game high 23 and Josh Kvam 20 would keep the Warriors in the running.

The Warriors would start the fourth period down by 18 points, before going on a 22-7 run to get as close as 6 points 81-75 with 2:51 left in the game.

Adrian Williams would cash in for 2 of his 20 points from the line.

Wheeler center J.J. Hickson would get into early foul trouble in the second and finish with 10 points. With the guard play of J.T. Tiller and the inside play of William Corley, the Wildcats didn’t miss a beat. James Florence would score 22 and points Adrian Williams (Son of Washington Redskins QB Doug Williams) would hold the scoring down with 20 points.

Kut Says: I will never forget when James Florence would go baseline with a one-handed dunk and let the air out the gym!

The final score Wheeler 96 Cherokee 84. Wheeler will host North Cobb in the first round of the state tournament. Cherokee will play Harrison in the first round. Good luck to both teams. What a game!

Third Place Game

Milton vs. Pope

Eagles take flight for third place

Nolte & Smith were beasts on the boards

The Longhorn Corral – Kell High School – Marietta, GA

Trevor Gaskins transferred to Milton H.S. from St. Francis and has been lighting it up.
The third place game between the Milton Eagles versus the Pope Greyhounds would be face paced. At halftime, the score would be 43-34 in favor of the Eagles and at the end of the third 59-43 with the Eagles on top.

In the fourth period, Trevor Gaskin would come off the bench after getting a technical to score 8 straight points, pushing the score to 79-64 on a reverse lay and it would seal the deal as both teams enter the state tournament. Milton will travel to Kennesaw Mountain, while Pope takes a visit to South Cobb for the first round.

Tony Smith (Rated Next) and T.J. Yates (UNC)

Final Score: Milton 88 Pope 70
