For the right Price, height made the difference.

Gwinnett Arena – Norcross, GA

Jones scores on a lay up pass Tinney.
The class 4-A state finals between the Columbia Eagles versus the Douglas County Tigers would feature height and talent. The number one ranked Eagles would have a solid starting five, while Tigers looked to match up at positions. The Eagles would take the Height advantage on the inside with 6’9 Georgia signee Jeremy Price and 6’9 Jeremy Lightfoot. The Tigers would try to match with 6’6 senior Mark Harp and outside shooting from Dayton Ohio Jujuan Jones.

The game would be fast pace to start the first period and the Eagles would get on the boards first with 2 points from Amu Saaka, a put back from Lightfoot and a bank of the glass by Price 6-0. Jujuan Jones would answer for the Tigers with a three pointer from downtown and Ricky Dobb with a pull jumper to keep it close early 6-5 with 4:43 to go in the first period. The Eagles Coach Phillip McCrary would bring 2 bench players on to the floor in Johntavious Rucker (6 points) and Jordan Lemons (5 points) to combine for 11 first period points and the Eagles would look to give the Tigers all they could handle early. The end of the first period Columbia 19 Douglas 11.

The Tigers would open up the second period with a long three-pointer from D.J. Holbrook and the Eagles would go inside to Price for 2 points Lance Storrs would scratch the boards with 2 free-throws and the Eagles would go on a 6-3 run ending in a dunk by Lightfoot (Eagles 25- Tigers 14). Rico Spears would nail a three-pointer for the tigers to cut the Columbia lead to 2 points and that set the Eagles off. Columbia would then respond with a three-pointer from Lance and 3 consecutive dunks by Saaka, Price, Lightfoot (Eagles 31- Tigers 23). Just when you thought Lemons and Rucker were bench players, both would get into the scoring act on fast break lay ups and Columbia would take the lead into the half by 13 points. (Eagles 41 – Tigers 28)

Lance Storrs was on fire from down town with the three pointers!

At the end of the third period, Price would dunk and give the Eagles a 15 point lead 57-42.

In the fourth period the Eagles would come out showing 4 fingers as if the period belonged to them, and it did. With 2:22 left in the game Saaka would score on a lay up to give Columbia a 20 point lead 70-50. On the next possession, Price would monster dunk and give the Eagles the victory.
