“Jaguars” demolish Towers

Brazil impressive, scores 2 touchdowns

James R. Hallford Stadium - Clarkston, GA

Stephenson RB-Rico Brazil goes airborn to score this touchdown.
Last week Stephenson a Class 5A school slipped up and gave away a game to McNair High School now a Class 3A school, well they weren’t about to let the same thing happen against Class 3A Towers as they demolished the undermanned “Titans” with a solid running attack and a hard hitting defense.

In all actuality this one was over before it started, Stephenson’s Terry Payne returned the opening kick-off 30-yards out to the 41-yard and from there turned it over to teammate RB-Rico Brazil. Brazil ripped off a 43-yard run on his first carry to give the “Jaguars” a first down on the Towers 21-yard line. Then he busted loose for 16 more yards to make it first and goal. Brazil finished off the drive with a short touchdown plunge. The PAT by K-Jonathan Jennings gave Stephenson a quick 7-0 lead.

The “Jaguars” defense came out flying all over the field as they smothered the Towers ball-carriers. Big hits by Stephenson LB-Dami Teniola and DB-Andre Leblanc forced Towers to punt from within their own 20-yard line.

Stephenson DB-Destin Route breaks through to block this punt.
On the punt things went from bad to worse for the “Titans” when Stephenson DB-Destin Route blew through a gap and blocked the punt by Towers K-Devron Wallace on the 7-yard line.

With Brazil taking a little rest RB-Louis Manning came in and scooted around the left end for a 5-yard touchdown run. Jennings PAT made it 14-0.

Although totally outmanned the “Titans” continued to battle, facing a forth-down and one from their own 40-yard line Towers went for it; a big stick by the “Jaguars” DE-Justin McClinton stopped Wallace behind the line of scrimmage, giving the ball back to Stephenson on the Towers 37-yard line.

The “Jaguars” didn’t waste any time taking advantage of the field position when on the very next play Brazil took the ball 37-yards to the house for his second touchdown of the game and a 21-0 lead.

Towers finally had a little something to cheer about when Williams hit WR-#88 (number not on the roster), who broke a couple of tackles for a first down in Stephenson territory at the 45-yard line. The drive continued when RB-Gabriel Bawwo picked up 10-yards and another first down as the quarter finally came to an end.

Stephenson LB-Dami Teniola left his feet to make this bone jarring hit.
The receipt for the Stephenson defense has been the same for the last several years, fast aggressive defensive linemen, tough hard hitting linebackers and speedy, athletic corners and safety’s and all of that was cooking against Towers. On the first play of the 2nd quarter the “Jaguars” DB-Destin Route made his second big play of the game with an interception.

By the end of the first-half FB-Jeffrey Tarver, who clears the holes for Brazil and Manning scored a pair of touchdowns giving Stephenson a 35-0 lead.

Stephenson Head Coach Ron Gartrell called off his chargers in the 2nd half giving the younger players some much needed playing time as Stephenson went on to record the win.

The Final Score: Stephenson 42 - Towers 0
