“Spartans” put Cross Keys on ice!
GAC turns attention to Buford James R. Hallford Stadium - Clarkston, GA
 |
| GAC RB-Caleb King scroed 2 TD's and had 2 more called back. |
In all actuality GAC would have beaten Cross Keys even without Caleb King but it might have been somewhat closer but as soon as King (the nations top ranked tailback) enrolled at Greater Atlanta Christian this game became a total mismatch, but my hats off to “The Keys” because they gave it everything they had. With this game now out of the way the “Spartans” can now turn their attention towards the big game this coming weekend against perennial powerhouse Burford at GAC.
The Cross Keys defense came out and did a nice job the first time GAC had the ball getting two big plays from LB-Robert Mason and held the “Spartans” to three-and-out forcing an early punt.
GAC’s defense led by LB-Brad Domonousky, DB-Michael Carothers and DE-Nicholas Biggee quickly returned the favor forcing Cross Keys to punt from within their own endzone. On the return Caleb King made several sweet cutbacks and raced 50-yards for the touchdown but a GAC penalty wiped out the return.
After a brief rest King returned to the line-up and busted loose for 37-yards and a touchdown. King would follow that up a few minutes later with a 2-yard touchdown run after a 34-yard burst on a sweep giving the “Spartans” a 14-0 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.
 |
| Cross Keys QB-Donte Gibson did a nice job in defeat. |
At the beginning of the second quarter, GAC’s DB-Banks Deal picked off a pass by Cross Keys QB-Dontae Gibson. Cross Keys countered that with an INT of their on the next play when DB- Joseph Chapman picked off the “Spartans” QB-Lee Chapple.
The Cross Keys offense behind the play of Gibson and RB-David Williams was able to make a few plays but they were unable to overcome miscues and the GAC defense.
After another King touchdown was called back the “Spartans” started opening things up with their passing game as Chapple hooked up with WR-Johnathan Dunagan for 30-yards and a touchdown. K-Landon Bennett tacked on the PAT to make the score 21-0.
 |
| GAC WR-Matt Gibson makes a nice catch. |
With :56 seconds left in the half Cross Keys in an attempt to run out the clock faced a forth-down and 1 from their own 29-yard line and went for it but the “Spartans” stuffed the attempt and GAC took over on downs.
GAC didn’t waste any time capitalizing as Chapple spotted WR-Justin Schneider wide open in the endzone for the touchdown, increasing the lead to 26-0. Bennett missed the PAT.
Things just got worse for Cross Keys when they fumbled the ball in the endzone with time running out and the “Spartans” LB-Trey Harber recovered it for a touchdown as GAC took a 35-0 lead into the half.
The 2nd half totally belonged to GAC as their depth and talent just wore down a already undermanned Cross Keys team whose players all went both ways. GAC Head Coach Jimmy Chupp removed all of his starters and inserted his reserves and never skipped a beat as the “Spartans” went on to record the lopsided shutout.
