Class AAA Semifinals

North Hall (13-0) vs. Cairo (11-2)

How sweet it is…

Syrupmakers beat Trojans for a trip to the state finals

Georgia Dome - Atlanta, GA

Cairo QB Angelo Pease does the Heisman on Matt Haynes.
Atlanta, GA – Well you know it was a playoff atmosphere when the Cairo “Syrupmakers” fans start battling the North Hall “Trojans” fans for position before the game actually began. I don’t know if the Trojans had any biscuits but a sweet game it was.

The first points of the game would be on a costly fumble as the Syrupmakers attempted a fumbled field goal that led to a 69 yards touchdown return by Robert Humphrey. The Trojans took the lead 7-0 after the field goal and the Syrupmakers fans begin to tighten up. It was no sweat as Syrupmakers quarterback Angelo Pease would answer the curtain call on a 26 yard touchdown pass to Dewayne Isom to tie the game with 8:51 to go in the 2nd quarter.

The Trojans Defense converted a 3 down and out. The offense turn to step things up would not be a let down. The Trojans would find their way into the end zone again on a 23 yard scramble by talented senior running back Hunter Wolf with 2:33 left in the half moving the score to 14-7.

Whatever Coach Tom Fallaw said to his Syrupmakers at half time must have worked. On the first play of the Syrupmakers possession, junior running back Reginald Bryant would burst up the sideline for an 80 yard touchdown run to tie the game at 14. Oh no, the Syrupmakers were just getting started as junior back up running back Ronnie Wooten would score on a 50 yard end around play to give the Syrupmakers their first lead of the game 21-14 with 8:24 left in the 3rd quarter.

Juniors Ronnie Wooten & Reginald Bryant gives name to Double Threat!

I couldn’t believe it as the Syrupmakers continued to pour it on thick with a 41 yard touchdown pass from Pease to Shontarious Brown moving the score to 28-14 with 5:23 left in the third quarter. Then I repeat (Then), Wooten would take a handoff 62 yard up the sideline breaking several tackles for the touchdown moving the score 35-14 with 3:04 left in 3rd quarter. After Wooten finished acting crazy, Bryant would come back into the game and break a run for 41 yards. On the next possession Bryant would finish the drill from 6 yards out with his second touchdown of the day moving the score to 42-14. The Trojans fans would slowly start exiting the Georgia Dome. Note: The Syrupmakers scored on all 5 possessions in the 3rd quarter!

In the 4th quarter Wolf would score again from 11 yards out but that would not be enough as the Syrupmakers pull off a SWEET victory. Cairo moves on to play Carver Columbus in the Class AAA state championship. Good Luck to both teams. I asked “LA” do you give the Syrupmakers the trophy now ? He said, “You already know”.
