Red Jackets Claims First State Title

Not by sight but by faith.

Class 3-A Championship Game

Jordan “Red Jackets” vs. East Hall “Vikings”

Macon Coliseum – Macon , GA

The Triple Threat (l-r) Winfred Ivey (Jr), Terrance Hill (Jr)and Quintin Crouch (Sr).
The East Hall Vikings look to take home their 4 state title since 2001. Does the Jordan “Red Jackets” out of Columbus Georgia have what it takes to dethrone the class 3-A favorites? After East Hall beat the Dunwoody Wildcats in the class 3-A Elite 8, everyone said to give them the trophy now. It’s only one way to see if everyone was right by putting it on the court in the state finals. One more win and the statement becomes true.

The East Hall girl’s team won the title. Can the boy’s team make it a sweep?

I called Klapp to get his opinion; he said Terrance Hill from Jordan should have a good game.

Terrance Hill scored the first 2 baskets of the game for the Red Jackets and 4SHOT Hoops All State Team player Walter Hill would score 5 points. Before you knew it, the score was 12-7 with 4:52 to go in the first period in favor of the Red Jackets. There was no defense being played. End of the first period Red Jackets on top 16-13.

Walter Hill splits Steve Peterson and Ivey.
T. Hill would open up the second period with a jumper and convert a free-throw increasing the lead for Jordan 20-13. After easy basket by Quintin Crouch and T. Hill the game would move to double digits as the Red Jackets went on a 12-0 run causing Joseph Dix to call a timeout with 5:03 to go in the half 28-13. Of course the Vikings would make a run behind a big three-pointer from Trevor Bishop but at the end of the half the Red Jackets would still be in the lead 37-28.

The Red Jackets started the third period up nine points and ended it the same way 45-36.

With 2:44 left for the state title can Jordan hold off up 54-49? Yep. The smallest guy on the floor in Winfred Ivey would rebound and get a shot off the glass moving the score to 59-51 with 1:37 left in the game and that was the deal. The Red Jackets would out rebound the Vikings the rest of the game holding on to win its first state title in school history. T. Hill would dunk with 6 seconds left. Congratulations Red Jackets.

Final Score:  Jordan 65 East Hall 53
