| Brandon Thompson shoots the jumper over Michael Gouge. |
At approximately 10:00 am Saturday morning on February the ninth of 2008, the Sweetwater Middle School “Saints” battled the Alton C. Crews Middle School “Broncos”. The showdown would feature future all star Bahsil Gordon and Brandon Thompson for the Saints. Gordon at 5’11 boasted a size 15 shoe and an upsize that is arguably off the charts. Thompson on the other hand is instant offense from inside and out.
The game would waste no time getting started as Thompson would put the Saints on the board 2-0 with an lay up, followed by a duplicate lay up from super point guard Yonel Brown 4-0. The Broncos would get their points started from the line with 2 free throws by DJ Brown 5-2 to hopefully start a run with 3:58 left in the first period. Just when you thought the scoring was going to be all Thompson, teammate shooting guard Benjamin Wibonele would pull up and hit a jumper to extend the lead. The big Shaq like center for the Saints in Eddie Sanchez would score in the paint off a put back with 32 seconds left in the first period and some way Thompson would highlight the ending of the period by hitting a deep three-pointer at the buzzer 15-4.

| Bahsil Gordon versus Denzel Shiver. |
In the second period Bahsil Gordon would score all 6 of his points in the paint on power moves and turn around bank shots. It was easy to see that the Broncos had no answer for Gordon rebounding. The steal of the show was when Alfredo Pichardo witness Yonel Brown split two defenders on the same move twice for a lay up to make the statement, “this kid could be the next DJ Augustine.”
Final Score: Sweetwater 46 Crews 25
