Broncos Survive the Hurricane

Chase Hawkins controlled the mound for 3 innings.

Brookwood HS – Lilburn, GA

Jordan Erisman wow!
After starting the season 3-0 the Purple Hurricanes from Cartersville Georgia would run up against Class 5-A powerhouse the Brookwood Broncos. The Broncos look to get out on a right start in their season opener with Chase Hawkins on the mound.

The game wouldn’t waste anytime; Jordan Erisman would hit a leadoff home run to give the Broncos the charge 1-0. Seth Adkins would contribute with a bomb over the center field wall to give the Broncos a first inning 3-0 lead.

With the score 4-0 in favor of the Broncos, it wasn’t until the top of the fourth inning when the Purple Hurricanes Cole Payne would drive in a run on a base hit to move the score to 4-1.

At the end of the day, the Broncos would hang on by a close one 4-3. Up next for the Broncos a trip to Flanagan Florida. For Cartersville a trip back to face Gwinnett County Collins Hill in their home opener.

The Battle of the Groves

No facing Anthony Rainge

Miller Grove HS – Lithonia, GA

(L-R) Jesse Curney and Xavier Avery
The Battle of the Groves would feature two undefeated teams in Dekalb County. The Miller Grove “Wolverines” versus the Cedar Grove “Saints” and the battle wouldn’t be anything nice.

The Wolverines would put up 4 scores in the bottom of the first inning.

After a talk with new head coach Lavato Byrd, the Saints would start to get things together with 2 runs in the top of the second inning. Pro prospect Xavier Avery would come in to score for the Saints off a base hit and you could fill the crowd buzzing. The Wolverines would not go away as  Darius Morris showed off his blazing speed as he went for the inside the park home run in the bottom of the second inning to move the score 5-2.

Jesse Curney would set the pace for the Wolverines in the bottom of the fourth inning by getting on base with a base hit. Coach Byrd would go to his bull pin to get a new pitcher to face Anthony Rainge with the bases loaded. Rainge would have no fear as he drove in 2 runs with a shot over the third basemen head to move the score to 10-3.

War Eagles fly in the right direction

Mackenzie Clutch

Heritage HS – Conyers, GA

Alex Mackenzie Class of 2008.
Last year the Marist War Eagles reached the state semi-finals in class 4-A before falling short by losing 2 straight games to champs Greenbrier. Can the War Eagles go further and make it all the way to the final dance the season? Well if that’s going to be the case, they have to go through the Heritage Patriots who they beat last year in a close one 7-6. Would this be a close one or will the Patriots defend home field? All I can say is that we know what happen to New England.

The Patriots would waste no time and get on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the 1st inning. In the top of the 5th inning the Patriots would walk in a run with the bases loaded to tie the game at 2. The Patriots would then bring in Brandon Thomas in the top of the 6th inning and the War Eagles would counter with Alex Mackenzie who drove in the game winning run off a hit, which led to a error at 1st base. The War Eagles would start the 2008 season off with a win while, the Patriots look to bounce back against the 2007 class 4-A state champs in Greenbrier.

Final Score: Marist 3 Heritage 2

Message of the Week!

Acts 5:3-5 3 Then Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? 4Didn't it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn't the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God." 5When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened.

Situation: Coach Johnson asked Jay did he keep two of the four bats that where given to the team. Jay lied and said “no”. Coach Johnson kicked Jay off the team. What does a lie cost?
