Class 1-A Finals (Girls)

Wesleyan “Lady Wolves” vs. Paideia “Lady Pythons”

Wolves Claim their fourth title in 5 years.

Anne Marie Armstrong was too strong

Macon Centreplex – Macon, GA (3/8/08)

The game between the Wesleyan “Lady Wolves” versus the Paideia “Lady Pythons” was over before it got started. The Lady Wolves have won three out of the last 4 state titles and look to reclaim their crown after losing to Greater Atlanta Christian in last years championship. Well nevertheless the game had to be played. The rebirth of the Lady Wolves to the throne.

The first period would get on its way with two deep three-pointer from the corner by Aysia McKenzie 6-0 in less than a minute into the game. Sophomore Erin Hall would shot a jumper and 4SHOT Hoop player of the year candidate Anne Marie Armstrong would drain a three-pointer to move the score to 11-0. Coach Paul Meiere would call a timeout to try to settle his Lady Pythons down. After the timeout, the Lady Pythons would answer on a basket inside by freshman Aneesah Daniels 13-2. The Wolves would answer on another jumper from McKenzie and Carter Johnson to close the first period 17-6.

Freshmen Grace Leah Baughn would start the second period with 4 straight points moving the score to 21-6. After several turnovers by the Lady Pythons, the Lady Wolves would extend the lead to 22 points on a fast break lay up by Chantel Kennedy 31-9. McKenize and Armstrong would convert their free throws down the stretch to close the half with the Lady Wolves up 47-17.

(Aysia McKenize first half 12 points, Anne Marie Armstong 10 points 6 rebounds)

Erin Hall would hit her third three-pointer of the period to give Wesleyan the lead going into the fourth period 62-28.

The Lady Pythons would fall victim to the mercy rule and have to play only 6 minutes in the fourth period.  The Lady Wolves would have only one senior on their team Carter Johnson who would go out with a knee injure but return to score one basket in the fourth period. At the end of the day, the Lady Wolves would claim their fourth state title in five years. Congratulations! The Lady Wolves will move their winning ways down to Class 1-A next year.
