Atlanta, GA – The South Carolina Gamecocks behind the play of Mike Holmes and former Josey H.S. star Dominique Archie (4SHOT Hoops has coined him “The One that got away”) jumped out to a early first half lead in their first round SEC Tournament Game against the LSU Tigers.
Former Atlanta Celtics and 4SHOT Hoops All-Star Dwayne Day added spark for the Gamecocks midway through the half when he came in and drilled back-to-back three-pointers to give South Carolina a 31-21 lead.
Playing without their All-SEC performer Tasmin Mitchell the Tigers turned to Anthony Randolph and junior Marcus Thornton. Randolph a smooth 6-10 freshman from Dallas, TX knocked down a pair of jumpers and Thornton hit a pair of three-pointers to help LSU close the gap to 37-34 heading into the half.
For whatever reason South Carolina came out in the second half rather sluggish while LSU picked up from where they left off at the end of the first half. Randolph continued his impressive play and 6-11 junior Chris Johnson joined in the act as the Tigers took a 54-52 lead.
