South Gwinnett vs. Norcross

Blue Devils With 56 seconds

Killa Safety Danal Slay

South Gwinnett Community Stadium - Snellville, GA

Game Breaker - Senior Strong Safety Danal Slay- 5'10 185pd
Snellville- In front of a packed house that represented the same colors, you could tell that this one was going to be a barnburner (barnburner - an impressively successful event). After losing to the Camden County “Wildcats” 21-6, the Blue Devils coach Keith Maloof looked fired up to lead his troops against the South Gwinnett “Comets.

The Comets held the Blue Devils star running back DJ Adams to 28 yards on 10 carries in the first half. The Comets defense was clicking on all cylinders, why the offense led by senior lefty quarterback Michael Polascik was impressive with the arm. Polascik would hit wide receiver James McCray on a 70-yard TD pass to give the Comets the lead 10-3 in the second quarter. Polascik would total 163 yards passing in the first half alone. Michael’s one big mistake would be the pass that was intercepted by super safety Danal Slay.  Slay read the quarterbacks eyes the entire route to swing the momentum and the Comets would tie the game at the half on a 1-yard rush from Adams (10-10).

After the half, the Comets would come out blazing, as running back Aaron Wimberly would do his “Usain Bolt” impersonation on an 80 yards touchdown run. After moving the score to 17-10, the Blue Devils would answer back by going 57 yards on eight plays to tie the score at 17 on a five-yard scramble by Adams.

DJ Adams takes this in the end zone before the half.

In the fourth quarter, South Gwinnett had the game in their favor until they received a roughing the kicker penalty on a 4th and 22 yard punt attempt to give the Blue Devils the game. The Blue Devils quarterback Charles King would score on a 3-yard TD run with 56 seconds left to seal the victory 24-17.
