Houston Co. too powerful for Fayette Co.!

Bears running attack devastating

Tiger Stadium-Fayette Co. High School

Houston Co. Bears RB's Robert Williams (#5), Corey Ballard (#33) and Garrick Davis (#1) were the dominate forces as they ran through the Fayette Co. defense.
Lets see, west coast offense, spread offense, and all of those other new wave offenses cannot match up to just good old fashioned smash mouth football.  And that is just what the Houston Co Bears do, they played smash mouth football as they manhandled the Tigers of Fayette Co 31-0 on Fayette’s home turf.

Houston Co had some fine looking athletes as I observed them in warm-ups.  They were big, stout, lean and very athletic.  Note: when a team has full contact drills during opening game warm-ups then that should pretty much tell you that they are going to be hitting all night long.

Houston Co. started the game by trying to throw the ball on Fayette Co as they tried to capitalize on a miss-match with 6’4 WR/DB Jalani Phillips.  This young man is a player on both sides of the ball as he made his presence felt on the defensive side of the ball as well with an interception.  The Bears were able to connect on a would be touchdown pass from QB Jeff Thompson to Phillips but it would be called back on a penalty.  After that it was well, we tried to throw early but now let’s do what we do.  And that is run that rock.

Houston Co. three headed monster at RB was awesome as they combined for over 200 yards rushing between the three.  Garrick Davis was the lead dog as he rushed for over 100 yards and 2 td’s. Teammate Robert Williams had 1 td run and the third member of this trio, Corey Ballard was nothing short of being a big bruiser as he played with a cracked wrist.  The thing that was so special about this trio was that they all had the same body stature, body lean and running style.  The only difference in them was their number.

While the offense was playing smash mouth ball, the defense

Houston Co. QB Jeff Thompson tries to elude the tackle by Fayette's Tim Pettaway(#2) while teammate Chad Jones (#6) gives chase.
of Houston Co was doing the same as they were led by LB Derek Carter and his 50 yd interception return for a score to give the Bears a 21-0 halftime lead.  Carter was not alone as teammates Justin Kitchens, Garrett West and as mentioned earlier Jalani Phillips were stalwarts on a very good and hard hitting defensive unit.

With Houston Co running the ball the way they were, Fayette never backed down as LB Andre Columbus had a fine game as he was on a numerous amount of tackles.

JB’s Justice - "The truth and nothing but the truth"

Football has changed a lot in the last few years.  There are more specialty players and specialty situations.  Having played football in the past myself, I am still and will always be an advocate for good old fashion man against man and no tricks football.

Word to the wise, if you are not ready to stand toe to toe with Houston Co, then you might be in some serious trouble!

Final Score: Houston Co. 31 – Fayette Co. 0
