Clarkston – The Columbia Eagles were still flying high after running up 70 points in an opening season win over Lakeside last week but they quickly found out that this is a new week and that Stephenson was not Lakeside as the Jaguars grounded the Eagles into submission.
Stephenson was bigger, faster and much more ready to play the game than was Columbia and it showed in every phase of the game as they came out and got right after the Eagles. The Jaguars defense led by LB-Nigel Mitchell-Thornton, DE-Damon Whitten, DB-Nate Washington, LB-Tyrone Cornelius and DL-Doral White stuffed Columbia on their first offensive series and sent a message to Columbia that running yardage was not going to be easy to come by all night.

In contrast the Jaguars on their first offensive series struck like a bolt of lightning as wing back Jared Pollard took a handoff cut back across the field and raced 65-yards for a touchdown. The PAT by kicker Colin Anderson made the score 7-0.
Nate Washington made a big defensive play for Stephenson when he beat a block and dropped Columbia RB-Nathaniel Anthony behind the line on third-down and three forcing the Eagles to punt.
A 30-yard run by the Jaguar’s running back Raymond Sanders gave Stephenson a first and ten on the Columbia 11-yard line. Pollard would score from there but a penalty would wipe out the play. A few plays later Stephenson quarterback Carsseon Gilbert scrambled out of trouble and spotted wide receiver Richard Drake wide open in the endzone for the touchdown. Anderson’s PAT put the Jaguars up 14-0.
Columbia’s undersized offensive line just was unable to make any room for their backs to run. They were however able to move the ball to the Stephenson 40-yard line in the second quarter but they fumbled and Whitten from Stephenson recovered it.
Stephenson wide receiver Jonathan Blackley made a big time catch for 37-yards when he out-dueled Columbia’s defensive back William Porter for the ball. The catch gave Stephenson a first down on the Eagles 23-yard line. On the next play Sanders rambled 21-yards untouched into the endzone for his second touchdown of the game and a 20-0 lead. The Pat attempt failed.
Thoroughly disappointed with his team’s lack of effort Columbia Head Coach Kevin Latham huddled his team together for a little talking to if you know what I mean. The talk didn’t change a thing as the Eagles continued to play uninspired football.
Stephenson put three more points on the board before the half when Anderson drilled a field goal from 23-yards out to give them a 23-0 halftime lead.
Things went from bad to worst for Columbia in the second half as Stephenson completely dominated the play on both sides of the ball. The Jaguars put 18 more points on the board and came away with their second win of the season.
The Final Score: Stephenson 41 – Columbia 0
