NSC looses heartbreaker to St. Pius
Golden Lions play with a “Full Moon”
Lakewood Stadium, Atlanta, GA

St. Pius' hard running FB-Cole Moon scores from one-yard out. Moon rushed for over 120-yards.
Atlanta, GA – When you play against the Golden Lions from St. Pius you may as well get ready for a “Full Moon” as in Cole Moon. St. Pius gave Carver’s defense a full dose of their ground attack that featured their hard charging fullback. Moon carried the ball 33 times for over 120-yards as St. Pius escaped with a tough win over the upset minded Panthers.
If St. Pius had not pulled out the last minute victory the lead paragraph would surely have been different because Carver’s talented tailback Desmond Dennis rushed for over 200-yards and scored a pair of touchdowns, one covering 75-yards.
St. Pius broke out on top first when they went away from the five yards and a cloud of turf and gave way to their elusive wingback Jonathan Carter who scooter around the right end untouched for nine yards and a touchdown. The PAT by kicker John Bergeron made it 7-0.
The St. Pius defense led by DE-Justin Harris, DE-Andrew Butler, DB-Matt Pierce, DB-Zack Retherford pretty much held the Panthers in check in the first quarter.

NSC running back Desmond Dennis score twice and rushed fro over 200-yards.
NSC got it going in the second quarter, Dennis busted loose for 37-yards to give the Panthers great field position at the St. Pius eleven-yard line. A couple of plays later quarterback Orimpian Allen hit WR- Freddie Aaron Jr. for a touchdown. Dennis booted the Pat to tie the game at 7-7.
The Panthers defense turned the tables on the St. Pius offense in the second-quarter. Led by LB-Andre Munford, DE-Phillip Harvey, DL-Chris Brown, LB-Patrick Etuk and DL-Emmanuel Walters they held the Panthers ground attack in check as the teams entered the half tied at 7-7.
The teams exchanged touchdowns in the third-quarter; Carter’s sweet 17-yard run set up Moon’s short touchdown plunge. Carter scored the two-point conversion to put St. Pius up 15-7; but the Panthers responded. Dennis broke off an 18-yrd run that set up a Allen 20-yard pass to Joel White. Darren Myles Jr. scored the two-point conversion to tie the game at 15-15.
A penalty against St. Pius at the end of the third-quarter was a costly one; you can’t end the quarter on a penalty so the Panthers got one more play which turned out to be a 75-yard touchdown run by Dennis that gave NSC their first lead of the game 21-15 as the third-quarter came to an end. The PAT failed.

Jonathan Carter score 2 touchdowns for St. Pius.
St. Pius which is not overly stocked with athletic players but they play as one unit and they are going to stick to the script. Riding the hard running of Moon the Golden Lions ate up almost half of the forth-quarter as the marched down the field. Moon finished off the drive scoring his second touchdown of the game, putting St. Pius back in front 23-21.
With less than 3:00 minutes to play in the game the Panthers drove down the field eating up yards and the clock. Kevin Myles Jr. broke off a nice run to put the ball on the St. Pius 17-yard line. A couple of plays later Dennis dove into the endzone with his second touchdown and the lead as the Panther’s fans went wild. The two-conversion attempt failed but NSC had a 27-23 lead.

The referee acknowledges Joel White's touchdown.
St. Pius took the kickoff and put the ball in the hands of their field general quarterback P.G. Standard and he did just what you would expect the son of the head coach to do; using his feet and his arm the lefty guided his team right down field. Carter showed off his diving skills when he leaped over a Panthers defender into the endzone for the game-winning touchdown. A two-point conversion sealed the deal.
