Alexander “Cougars” vs. Mays “Raiders”

Mays defense comes up big at the end

Raiders move to 4-0

Lakewood Stadium – Atlanta, GA

Mays WR-Acey PAlmer hualed in the pass and raced 68-yards for the score.
Atlanta, GA – After a tough last second win over Whitewater last week I’m sure the Raiders from Mays thought that maybe the against 1-2 Alexander would be a little easier but it was anything but that as they held on for a gut wrenching victory.

The defenses controlled play in the first-quarter as both offensive units failed to muster up any real scoring threats and the quarter ended with no score.

Mays started moving the ball in the second-quarter; their all-star tailback Desmond Walker finally started finding a little running room, which loosened up the Alexander defense.

Quarterback Bobby Anthony took advantage when he dropped back and found receiver Acey Palmer; who reached over the top of the Cougars’ Joe Gallegos to haul in the pass and race 68-yards for the games first touchdown. The PAT failed as Mays took a 6-0 lead into the half.

The Alexander defense played tough the entire game.
Alexander came out in the second half and behind quarterback Colton Harris marched 53-yards to the Mays thirty-three yard line. A few plays later the Cougars speedy wingback Darius Safford exploded for 33-yards and a touchdown. The PAT by kicker William Meira put Alexander in front 7-6.

In the forth-quarter Mays linebacker Demario Turner turned in the defensive play of the game when he forced and recovered a fumble by Alexander wingback Greg Brackins. Trailing 7-6 the Raiders capitalized on the turnover when running back Jeric Boyd rambled 16-yards to paydirt for a 12-7 lead. The Raiders missed the extra point.

With less than 6:00 minutes left to play in the game Alexander mounted a drive deep into Mays territory; Brackins somewhat made up for his fumble a few minutes earlier when he broke loose for 22-yards to the Raiders twenty-five yard line.

Mays RB-Desmond Walker finds a little openeing.
The drive would come to a crashing end when the Cougars failed to pick up a first down on forth down and two. Mays would hold on for the win as the moved their season record 4-0. Alexander fell to 1-3.

The Final Score: Mays 12 – Alexander 7
