Phillips leads four players in double figures

Stegeman Coliseum – Athens, GA

UGA's Porsha Phillips (Redan H.S.) scored a game high 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to lead the Lady Bulldogs to victory.
Athens, GA - Porsha Phillips a former 4SHOT Hoops All-State selection when she played at Redan High School in Stone Mountain transferred from LSU a year ago after her freshman season scored a career high 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to lead the Georgia Lady Bulldogs past a scrappy bunch of Lady Hornets from Alabama State by a score of 85-35.

The Lady Hornets coached by Freda Freeman-Jackson actually stayed close early on behind the three-point shooting of Erica Lumpkin who knocked down a couple of three-pointers to make the score 8-6 but Georgia went on a 12-0 run to build up a 20-6 lead and never looked back.

Georgia Head Coach Andy Landers substituted freely throughout the first-half, as did Coach Freeman-Jackson for Alabama State. Eight of the nine Georgia players that hit the floor scored. Phillips, Ashley Houts and Angel Robinson are all former Georgia H.S. stars and each played in the McDonald’s All-American Game; led the Lady Bulldogs with 11, 11 and 8 points respectively as Georgia took a 49-22 lead into the half.

alabama State's L’Teisha Holloway (Westside Macon H.S.) squares up against UGA's Christie Marshall.
Alabama State came out in the second half and played a lot more aggressive scoring 9 quick points, L’Teisha Holloway who was a 4SHOT Hoops All-State selection when she starred at Westside Macon H.S. scored 4 points and grabbed a pair of rebounds during the run.

Georgia quickly gained their composure and retook control of the game. Christy Marshall and Danielle Taylor her high school teammate at Beach H.S. in Savannah did most of the second half damage for the Lady Bulldogs scoring 10 and 12 points respectively. Jasmine Lee a sophomore from the state of Alabama also did some damage for Georgia in the second half with 9 points as they cruised to an easy win over Alabama State University from the SWAC.

UGA's Angela Puleo tries to get to Alabama State's Eric Lumpkin before she drills 1 of 4 three-pointers she hit in the game.
Phillips (Redan H.S.) led all scorers with 15 points, Houts (Dade County H.S.) added 14 with 4 assists and 4 steals, Marshall (4SHOT Hoops “Players of the Year” in 2006) finished with 11 points and 6 assists and Taylor (Beach H.S.) had 12 points.

Lumpkin led Alabama State with 12 points, Holloway added and Jamie Chambers each finished with 6 points for the Lady Hornets.

Georgia will hit the road for their next game against Oakland in Rochester, Michigan while Alabama State will play host to Mobile on Wednesday in Montgomery, AL.
