Defense propel Eastside "Eagles advance to 2nd round" Homer Sharp Stadium - Covington, GA

Covington, GA-The Eastside Eagles (10-1 overall, (6-1 in Region- 8-AAA) advanced to the second round of the state playoffs after a 20-6 first round victory over the Creekview Grizzlies (6-5 overall, 5-1 in Region – 8-AAA) Friday at Homer Sharp Stadium.
The Eastside defense dominated the entire first half holding the Grizzlies to just 13 yards to send notice that they were not going to squander the opportunity they’ve been waiting on for seven long years.
Eastside’s defense has been dominate for most of the season showcasing a strong defensive front line with Karl Williams at one defensive end and Jacorie Maddox on the other side.

The Eagle decondary has contributed in a big way as well with the play of defensive backs Antarius Terrell, Andrico Bailey and Justin Wray.
The first score came when quarterback Wray went around the right side for five yards and the score. The extra point try failed when the Eagles missed on a fake try for two points and took a 6-0 lead with 51 seconds remaining in the first half.

Creekview came out in the second half to get their only score when quarterback Collins Wold noticed James Barclay had gotten behind the Eagle secondary and hit him for a 69-yard touchdown bomb. The Eagles blocked the Grizzlies’ extra point try and the score was tied at six with 10:45 left to play in the game.
Eastside’s offense has also played up to it’s expectations led by Wray, Git Aikens, Rashad Hill, Broderick Alexander and Bailey.
The Eagle offense took to the ground on their next possession going 69 yards with Hill going on a 22-yard scamper for the score and the Eagles took the lead after the PAT 13-6 with 7:51 left to play.

The Eagles marched the ball down the field on their last possession to score on an Alexander 5-yard burst with 51 seconds left.
It’s true, "defense wins championships."
The game ended with Eastside ahead 20-6 advancing the Eagles to the second round where they will take on the Carrollton (9-2 overall, 4-0 in Region-8-AAA) Friday at Homer Sharp Stadium.
