Eastside upset Carrollton
"Eagle defense d0ictate!"
Homer Sharp Stadium – Covington, GA

Terrell downs Gatorade after TD catch.
When the Eastside Eagles (11-1) ran on to Homer Sharp Stadium’s turf, they jaunted out with a noticeable swagger of a dominating nature that carried over to a 21-9 victory over the Carrollton Trojans (9-3) in the second round of the Class-AAA state playoffs.

Eastside quarterback Justin Wray threw for more yards than the Trojans entire offense could muster completing 10 of 13 passes for 177 yards.

Wray completed 8 of 12 passes for 176 yards including a 70-yard screen to wide receiver Antarius Terrell for the first score of the game and the Eagles took a 7-0 lead after Yanard Tinker’s extra point with 4:55 showing on the clock in the first period.

Wray later went 24 yards on a QB keeper for a score that put Carrollton in a hole they couldn’t dig themselves out of and the Eagles had a 14-0 lead after Tinker booted his second extra point point of the game.

The Eagle defense continued their dominance to go in the locker room at the half in front by two touchdowns.

Carrollton QB confused all night.
Defensive ends Karl Williams and Jacorey Maddox went to work on the Trojan offense holding them to two first downs and allowing them just 38 yards of offense in the first half.

However, the Trojans made some adjustments at halftime to open up with a 67-yard drive in six plays that ended with Trojan quarterback Dallas Dickey going into the end zone on a dive play with just three ticks gone off the clock in the third.

The Eagles came right back to score on their second possession of the second half needing just three plays to go 80 yards with Broderick "The Diesel" Alexander plowing over and through the Trojan defense on a 73-yard run to get the Eagles to the Trojan 1-yard line.

Git Aiken finished the drive with a short jaunt around the right side for the score to give Eastside a 21-7 lead after the extra point with 2:03 left in the third.

A runaway diesel on the move.
Eastside gave up two points when the Eagles offense was backed up in their own territory and Wray was forced out of the back of the end zone for the safety with 11 seconds remaining to play. The Eagles advance to the quarterfinals with the 21-9 victory over visiting Carrollton.

Depending on the flip of the coin, the Eagles could be at home again Friday for the quarterfinals to play the Cairo Syrupmakers who got by Burke County 41-28 in their second round contest.

Eastside ran an excellent balanced offense compiling 177 yards rushing and 177 yards passing. Alexander led all rushers with 122 yards on 10 carries, while Wray was 10 f0r 13 passing with 177 yards.
