Street Talk - "L.A."
Street Talk with Jasmine Blain
Over last few seasons the North Cobb “Lady Warriors” basketball team has been on a bit of a surge; last season they soared to an 18-10 record before loosing a heartbreaker to Duluth in the 1st round of the state playoffs. One of the main reasons for the surge has been the play of 6-1 senior Jasmine "Jazzy" Blain, who has elevated her play to all-state status. I caught up with the Georgia Hoopstars and Georgia Tech signee for a little Street Talk.
L.A.: Who have been some of the most influential people in your life? Jasmine: My Parents – Sophia & Willy Blain, family and my coaches (Gary Graham w/Smyrna Stars, JD Davis w/GA Hoopstars, Beverly Grayson w/GA Hoopstars, Donnell Miller w/GA Hoopstars, & Matt Williams w/North Cobb HS
L.A.: What has been one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Jasmine: The day that I signed my letter of intent to go to Georgia Tech! All that work has finally paid off and now my dreams are coming to reality.
L.A.: What moment(s) would you most like to forget? Jasmine: The day I got hurt on the court!!!!
L.A.: What is the strongest part of your game? Jasmine: My outside shoot, driving to the hole and free-throws.
L.A.: What do you think you need to work on to take your game to the next level? Jasmine: Getting stronger and being more physical.
L.A.: Who has been one of the toughest players you ever had to play against and who is the best high school player you personally have ever seen? Jasmine: Well this is a tough question, I have played against a lot of tough players and its hard to say who is the toughest and it’s also hard to say who is the best HS player that I have seen. I believe that players who I have played against bring their own flavor to the game – which makes them the toughest and the best at what they do.
L.A.: Tell me something about yourself that people wouldn’t know by just looking at you? Jasmine: A lot of people don’t know that I am interested in studying Polymer, Textile and Fiber Engineer and also study Forensic Science.
L.A.: Do you have a nickname? Jasmine: Friends and Family call me Jazzy, but my nickname with my AAU team is The Franchize.
L.A.: If you could change anything in the world today what would it be? Jasmine: I really wouldn’t want to change anything, because everything happens for a reason; even if you don’t understand why at that time. This is the way we learn life!
L.A.: If you could meet anyone (not an athlete) in the world (past or present) who would it be and why? Jasmine: My Grandpa Lincoln, because I never met him before and I would like to see what he is like.
L.A.: “Now we are going to do a little something called “CONFESSION”
CONFESSION

L.A.: Do you get special treatment at home because you play sports? Jasmine: No way!
L.A.: Have you ever heard your parent(s) yelling “hustle, get moving, you can do better than that etc.” at you and it just irked you? (It could have been in little league, middle school, whenever). Jasmine: Yes, all the time.
L.A.: Do you like to hear how good you are or what you need to do to get better? Jasmine: I like to hear what I need to do to get better; it always keeps me on my toes ready and willing to learn more.
L.A.: If you were not an athlete do you think people would treat you different (explain)? Jasmine: No, not really. I think they would treat me the same because my personality will always be the same.
L.A.: Can you cook, and I don’t mean boil an egg (laugh)?
Jasmine: No, but I am learning at every chance I get.
L.A.: When you are participating in your sport are you cocky or confidant, or both?
Jasmine: I am more confident!
L.A.: Keep it Real now, do you use the fact that you are an athlete to sometimes get your way? Jasmine: Yes
L.A.: Have you ever backed away from a challenge and later told yourself that this will never happen again? Jasmine: Yes
