Warriors bring down the Eagles
Like father like son.
Etowah H.S. – Woodstock, GA
Woodstock, GA - The Cherokee “Warriors” record of 10-2 is the same as their girl’s team in the region. The last time the Warriors match up in November against the Etowah “Eagles”, Cherokee came out on top with the victory by twenty one points 61-49. Would tonight’s game be any different? Let’s see if Coach Don Hurlburt strategizes a plan to stop all state performer Shawn Kemp Jr. this time.
With a record of 1-11 in the region, the Eagles would strike first on a jumper by senior guard Chris Basher. In the first half both teams would light it up from three-point range, combing for 13 total for the game. The Eagles would take a one point lead into the half 32-31.
With 12 seconds left in the game, sophomore shooting guard Jeffery Anderson would go to the free throw line and make 1 of 2 to move the score to 54-53 in favor of the Warriors. On the inbound play the Eagles would foul Kemp right away and stop the clock with a chance for a last chance to win it. Shawn would go to the line and miss the first free throw. Coach Hurlburt would call time out in an effort to ice Kemp for the second free throw. Kemp would make go on the second to move the score to 55-53. With 9 seconds left on the clock, the Warriors defense would tighten up as Kemp who alter the last second shot attempt by #42 to win the game.
