Atlanta, GA – Georgia Tech Head Coach MaChelle Joseph said it best after her teams victory over visiting NC State; "This game was about more than winning and losing. It's about a battle against something much bigger than basketball." and she was right on in referring to Breast Cancer, which late NC State Head Coach Kay Yow succumb to on Jan. 24, 2009.
In memory of the late Hall of Fame coach the Lady Yellow Jackets dawned pink uniforms, something women’s college teams all over the country have been doing this season not only in her memory but in the memory of thousands of women who suffer from this life threatening disease every day.
Despite the warm welcome and flowers the NC State players received from Georgia Tech before the game the Lady Yellow Jackets were all about taking care of business when the jump ball was tossed up; five of the six players that hit the floor for the Lady Yellow Jackets scored as they jumped out to a 15-4 lead.

It wasn’t a particularly good homecoming for former 4SHOT Hoops and Benjamin E. Mays All-Star Nikitta Gartrell; she played fairly well but her shots just were not falling and hers weren’t the only ones not falling as the Lady Wolfpack got off to a cold start.
Gartrell’s assist to Shayla Fields, who did manage to drain a three-pointer that cut the lead to 15-9. NC State would pull to within six, 22-16 a few minutes later when Sharnise Beal stuck a jumper.
Former 4SHOT Hoops and Liberty County H.S. star Metra Walthour did a nice job of running the point for Georgia Tech and would finish off the first half scoring to give the Lady Yellow Jackets a 30-20 halftime lead.
Gartrell knocked down a jumper as the second half got underway and Fields hit three free-throws as NC State cut the lead to eight.

Georgia Tech’s starting freshman center Sasha Goodlett, who looks like she’s on her way to making the ACC All-Freshman Team continued to make her presence felt in the paint by scoring three baskets as they pushed the lead back up to ten, 39-29.
NC State’s shooting woes started up again and their inability to get the ball off the glass allowed Georgia Tech to get out and run. A 10-2 run capped off by Alex Montgomery’s three-pointer gave the Lady Yellow Jackets their largest lead of the game at 48-32.
The Lady Wolfpack would cut the lead to eleven, 54-43 with just under 6:00 minutes to play and they would make a late run towards the end of the game but that would be it as Georgia Tech went on to win the game by thirteen.
The Final Score: Georgia Tech 67 – NC State 54
