2009 DeKalb County MS Tournament of Champions

3rd Place Game

Chamblee MS “Bulldogs” vs. Chapel Hill MS “Hornets”

Chapel Hill stings Chamblee

Hornets out scrap taller Bulldogs

Columbia High School – Decatur, GA

Chamblee had no answers for Emmauel Walker (l) and Willie Moody (r).
Decatur, GA – Besides center Jade McClendon who stands over 6-0 the Chapel Hill MS “Hornets” didn’t have another player in the stating line-up over 5-9 but they out rebounded and out hustled the taller Chamblee MS “Bulldogs” to capture 3rd place in the 2009 DeKalb County MS Tournament of Champions.

It was a slow first quarter as both teams played a little out of control; Willie Moody would hit 3 of 4 free-throws for Chapel Hill but it was Chamblee’s Kamren Mack’s two baskets that help give the Bulldogs a 6-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Chapel Hill used a 7-2 run midway through the second quarter to take a 13-8 lead. McClendon would add another basket to push the lead up to 16-8 with 1:33 left in the half. The teams would exchange baskets and at the half Chapel Hill would lead 20-12.

Chambless's Desmond Nord has a tight game; even though he didn't score he played well.
Chapel Hill’s guard tandem of Moody and Emmanuel Walker did a nice job of attacking the basket; Moody’s lay-up gave the Hornets their largest lead of the game 24-14.

Malcolm Battle stepped up his game in the third quarter and joined McClendon as Chapell Hill started seizing control of the glass; his two free-throws with 1:50 left in the third quarter gave the Hornets a 27-17 lead.

Chamblee would make a mini run behind the playoff Devin Bellamy to cut the lead to seven but Moody’s lay-up at the end of the third quarter would push the lead up to nine, 32-23.

Chamblee came out in the forth quarter and really got after Chamblee; Dezmin Reid, who had been pretty quite scored four quick points to cut the lead to 32-27. Avery Patterson would stick a jumper to bring the Bulldogs even closer at 34-30 with 3:35 left to play in the game.

Chaple Hill MS's Jade McClendon and Chamblee's DEvin Bellamy had a nice little battle going on inside.
Chapel Hill’s Jordan Scott finally started playing the type of ball I knew he could play; his much needed free-throws help slow Chamblee’s roll. Battle would score on a fastbreak lay-up and just like that Chapel Hill was up 39-30.

The Hornets would continue to sting the Bulldogs as the lead reached thirteen, 43-30. William Belcher from Chapel Hill would connect on two free-throws with time winding down to cap off the Hornets win as they went on to capture third place in the 2009 DeKalb County MS Tournament of Champions.

The Final Score:
Chapel Hill 45 – Chamblee 39
