Region 5-3A Championship Game
Columbia “Eagles” vs. Druid Hill “Red Devils”

Columbia wins Region Championship

Game over in 1st quarter

Columbia H.S. – Decatur, GA

Columbia freshman Jordan Price had an outstanding region tournament. He scored 25 in the title game.
Decatur, GA – It didn’t take long for the Columbia “Eagles” to clear off a spot in their trophy case for another region championship because this one was over before the end of the first quarter as the Eagles rushed out to a fifteen-point lead over Druid Hills and never looked back.

Carlos Trotty received the opening tip and bam he drilled a three-pointer to give Columbia a quick lead. I turned to put another lens on my camera and when I looked up it was 8-0.  When freshman Jordan Price made a sweet assist to Darnellius Session that made it 10 zip it was all over but the shouting.

Druid Hills, I don’t believe they could have brought a basket even if Columbia wanted to sell them one, you know the economy being what it is. The Red Devils Head Coach Curtis Gilleyen and his players never would have thought that they would play a quarter like this.

Every Columbia starter would score in the first quarter as they took a 17-2 lead.

Druid Hills' Marcel Baugh played with a lot of energy despite the lopsided score.
Druid Hills played much better in the second quarter, Marcel Baugh and Miles Grier both scored a pair of baskets as they matched Columbia point for point. Jershon Cobb, a top rising junior drilled a deep three-pointer for the Eagles as they took a 26-11 lead into the half.

Columbia would open the throttle back up in the third quarter, Cobb would drain his second three-pointer and Jordan would added 8 points to his total as the Eagles built a commanding 47-22 lead.

Columbia's Carlos Trotty attempts this reverse lay-up.
The forth quarter was really just a formality; Columbia reserve Jazzman Major started feeling it as he drained a pair of three-pointers. Price who is just a freshman is already considered one of the top freshman in the country; he would top off a sweet performance going 6 for 6 from the line enroot to scoring 11 forth quarter points.

Both coaches would get a chance to go deep into their bench as the Eagles soared to a one-sided win to capture the 2009 5-3A Region Championship. Both teams will now get ready for their 1st round state playoff game.

The Final Score: Columbia 73 – Druid Hills 31

Scoring Recap

Columbia: Jordan Price led all scorers with a game high 25 points. Jershon Cobb finished with 14, Pierre Tyson had 10, Jazzman Major 8 and Carlos Trotty chipped in with 7.
