Greensboro, NC – The backcourt of tandem of Jr.-Shannon Smith and Jr.-Kelsey Harris from Forestview H.S. were pretty much unstoppable against T.C. Roberson H.S. in the Western Region Championship game. The duo combined to score 51 of the teams 66 points to lead their team to victory.
Smith and Harris took turns scoring baskets in the first quarter as Forestview took a quick 6-0 lead. T.C. Roberson, which has some pretty good-looking guards of their own in Sr.-Maria Young, Sr.-Tee’Ara Copney and Fr.-Jessica Edmonds hung tough matching Forestview basket for basket.
The scoring of Smith and Harris helped keep the Lady Rams at bay; it appeared that one or the other would score anytime the Lady Jaguars needed a basket. Ashley Pratt a senior and freshman Briana Taylor also played well and helped the Lady Jaguars take 20-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Three-pointers by Jr.-Alyssa Ivey and Edmonds would cut the lead to 24-23 with just over 4:00 minutes left in the half. T.C. Roberson would continue to push the action; a three-pointer by Copney would give the Lady Rams their first lead of the game 28-27. The Lady Rams would tack on another basket to take a 31-29 lead into the locker room.
T.C. Roberson would increase their lead to six, 39-33 on a lay-up by Edmonds. The Lady Rams really appeared to have control of the game and you could see that the Forestview players were getting a little frustrated as T.C. Roberson increased their lead to eight, 47-30 with 3:15 left in the third quarter.
Over the last 2:00 minutes of the quarter Forestview started mounting a comeback; a basket by Harris and two free-throws by Taylor would cut the lead to two, 49-47 as the quarter came to a close.
Smith got back into a groove as the forth quarter got underway scoring back-to-back baskets to put her team back in front 54-53.

Once Forestview got the lead they put the ball in the hands of Smith. With time running down Smith hit a pair of free-throws to make it 64-5. The Lady Rams would miss a couple of opportunities to close the gap but time and Smith wasn’t about to let that happen as Forestview went on to win the game and advance to next weeks championship game.
Shannon Smith scored a game high 28 points and dished out 4 assists to be named the games “Most Valuable Player”.
