Macon, GA – Buford freshman Andraya Carter playing in her first state championship game played like a seasoned veteran making plays all over the floor as the Lady Wolves won the school’s first basketball state championship.

Head Coach Gene Durden and his Buford Lady Wolves didn’t waste any time letting Model know what they were in store for, all out pressure on both ends of the floor. A three-pointer by Michelle Godwin started the Buford rampage. After the basket they immediately jumped into a full-court press that engulfed the Lady Blue Devils.

Carter would hit a pair of free-throws and Jocelyn Danley, who killed Model inside scored a pair of baskets and before you knew it Buford was up 11-0.

Blanche Alverson, a 4SHOT Hoops All-Star and a Univ. of Auburn signee got it going as she stepped outside and nailed a three-pointer and reserve Audrey Dorsey scored a couple of hoops as the Lady Wolves opened up a 22-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Model settled down somewhat in the second quarter and actually outscored Buford 9-8 but they still trailed by fifteen, 30-15 heading in to the half.

Burford ran off six quick points to start the third quarter forcing Model Head Coach Sally Echols to call a timeout.

Danley continued to dominate the paint posting up to score ten third quarter points as the Lady Wolves increased their lead to 53-27.

The forth quarter was pretty much a formality for Coach Durden and his Lady Wolves. With 3:28 left to play and a commanding lead he cleared his bench to give his reserves some quality playing time.

With the final seconds ticking off the clock the Lady Wolves and their fans celebrated wildly as the accepted the schools first state basketball championship. Hey football team, clear off a little place in the trophy case for another championship trophy.

Buford: Jocelyn Danley scored a game high 21 points to pace the Lady Wolves. Blanche Alverson and Andraya Carter each finished with 11. Michelle Godwin and Audrey Dorsey would score 7 and 6 points respectively.

Model: Shelby Farmer would score 13 to lead the Lady Blue Devils. Lauren Shields added 7 and Joy Haskins would score 6.
