| Junior Brandon Kregel slides into 2nd for a double. |
Lilburn, GA - Every year there is one game I look for to seeing and that is the Parkview “Panthers” versus the Cartersville “Purple Hurricanes”. One reason is that it always features future Major Leaguers and this year it didn’t disappoint. The word has been out for a while on Donavan Tate since his sophomore year, if he was going to play football or baseball. The Purple Hurricanes star has committed to play football for the North Carolina “Tar Heels” next year but the Majors could come calling. The same would be for the Panthers Brandon Jacobs who already plays for the New York “Giants”. Seriously this Jacobs is a talented left fielder who has a monstrous bat.
The Panthers would strike first off a shot down the third baseline by Brandon Kregel to move the score to 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Michael Frazier would take advantage of the curve ball by driving it pass the short stop for a double of his own, putting the Panthers up 4-0 with only one out. The Purple Hurricanes would force their way back as Donavan would copy the Panthers for a double to bring in Ben Venters from second base to move the score to 4-1. In the bottom of the fourth inning Brandon Kregel would drive in Jacobs from third base to move the score to 6-1. The Hurricanes Levi Mauldin would score from third to move the score to 6-2 and Tate would score on a big hit by Ben Bridges 6-3. When it was all said and done the Panthers would hold home field in this years match up.
Final Score: Parkview 6 Cartersville 3
The victory over the Purple Hurricanes would be the Panthers would only give the Panthers their fourth victory of the year, as they welcome the Columbus High School “Blue Devils” to Hugh Buchanan field on Friday. The Blue Devils have only lost 1 game all year. The loss gives Cartersville only 4 for the season as they look to turn back the winning ways against Central Carroll.
Message of the Week!
2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Situation: Jason Crush ERA was .56 with an average of 17.5 strikeouts a game. Brent Underwood a known Christian was the worst batter on his team. When preparing to face Crush, one of his teammates asked him, “Brent are you afraid of him?” Brent smiled and said “No.” Brent went on to hit a homerun in every at bat that he faced Crush (4 Total) and showed great sportsmanship after the game. .
