| Tanae Davis of Terrell County on her way to the "HOOP". Ain't no stopping her now. |
The Lady Greenwave of Terrell County had been their before as they lost the state finals in 2004 by one point to Wesleyan. The Calhoun County Lady Cougars had never been here before. Experience would prove the better valor as Terrell County won the Class A state championship with a come from behind victory over Calhoun County by a score of 48-45.
Terrell County showed their never say never die attitude as they played fantastically down the stretch to win the state title. Senior all everything player Tanae Davis led all scorers with 26 points as she ended her career with a state championship. Davis will next be taking her enormous basketball skills to Florida State University.
The Lady Cougars of Calhoun County played a terrific game as they led this contest from the opening tip-off until late in the fourth quarter.
 |
| Joe Donna Molden of Calhoun County played an outstanding tournament. |
Calhoun was on their game from the start as they jumped out to a 17-4 first period lead. Sophomore Shanon Coleman and junior Joe Donna Molden led the way with 7 and 5 pts apiece. Calhoun’s full court press had Terrell County totally out of their rhythm as there were times that they could not even get the ball over the half court line.
In the second period, the Lady Greenwave played with more determination as Tanae Davis and freshman sensation Monshay Thomas jumpstarted the team with some steals and converted baskets. This quarter was really about Tanae Davis and how she simply went off as she showed the Centreplex crowd why she is going to an ACC school to play basketball. Davis scored 14 of the teams 20 points in the quarter as she showed that the mid-range game is still very popular with a number of pull-up jumpers and dribble drives to the hole. And yes, she also showed the range as she drained one from downtown.
Though Terrell County played well in the second they still were down going into the half as Brittany Martin hit a trey with time running out to give Calhoun an eight point halftime lead. Martin scored 7 in the quarter and teammate Molden added six more.

| Senior Shankel Allen made the big trey to help the Lady Greenwave to a state title. |
The Greenwave knew that defensive stops were what they needed. That is just what happened as the Lady Cougars would only score four points in the last quarter.
Big time players make big time plays and that is what Terrell County got from Davis and senior running mate Shankel Allen. With 6:14 to go in the contest, Davis tied the game with a jumper at 41. Davis would later give her team their first lead with two free throws at the 5:20 mark. Shankel Allen , who last year missed a shot that would have given them a state title knew it was time for her to step up and make a play. With 3:48 remaining Allen launched a rainbow from the top of the key that hit nothing but bottom to take a 46-43 lead and an eventual state championship. REDEMPTION!
Scoring summary:
Terrell County: Tanae Davis 26, Monshay Thomas 14, Shankel Allen 8.
Calhoun County: Joe Donna Molden 19, Brittany Martin 13, Shannon Coleman 9, Shakira Shepard 3, Kiswanna Eafford 1.
