4SHOT Sports Championship Games 3-A Girls Championship Hephzibah “Rebels” vs Kendrick “Cherokees” Macon Centreplex – Macon, GA Rebels shoot down Cherokees The Rebels of Hephzibah set fire to the Cherokees of Kendrick burning down their teepees and sent them running off to find a new territory to set up camp on another reservation shooting their lights out with a 72-65 win in the girls 3-A state championship game at the Macon Centreplex on Saturday. The Rebels were led by 5-8 senior center LaCoya Terry, who played all over the court and caused a lot of trouble for the Cherokee defense scoring a game high 21 points with four assists and getting back on defense, dawning her ski mask, and robbing Kendrick with three steals. Kendrick came out smoking in the first period with Washington hitting three pointers and pulling up in the paint for the soft jumpers. The Rebels answered with senior Charlotte Styles giving her own version of the touch jumper to thwart any pre-conceived ideas Kendrick might have about a thing called blowout. The Cherokees led 24-17 at the end of the period.
When the Lady Rebels came back to the court to start the second half, they must have left Terry in the Lady’s room. Three pointers started to drop from the hemisphere. Yes that’s right, Terry went completely off on Kendrick scoring 12 points to give Hephzibah a 55-50 lead to end the third period. Kendrick was not about to go down in the manner everyone thought was about to happen when 5-7 junior guard Leschelle Matthews burned the Rebels for nine points, but it wasn’t enough as Ms. “You Know Who” Terry put the ball in her hands and went into a zone that she didn’t come out of until the end of the game to give her Lady Rebels the championship trophy. E.R.’s Picks: Hephzibah: LaCoya Terry(Pure As The Driven Snow), Charlotte Styles,(GDP), Porsha White(GDP), Jaleesa Morris, Brooke Johnson Kendrick: Rachelle Washington(GDP), Rosetta Hollis(GDP), Leschelle Matthews(GDP), Janae McKinney, Clarissa Johnson
