L.A. "Keeping it Real" with Jelly

Street Talk caught up with Avondale High School’s Angelica Mealing after a tough workout with her AAU basketball team the Georgia Hoopstars. I got a chance to sit down and “Keep it Real” with the slick handling point guard known as “Jelly”.

L.A:  “Who have been some of the most influential people in your life thus far?”

Jelly:  “My moms and all of my coaches”

L.A.:  “What have been some of the most exciting or most memorable moments in your career so far?”

Jelly:  “When we won the Regional Championship last year”.

L.A.:  “What about the moments you would like to forget?”

Jelly:  “When we lost to Johnson-Gainesville in the quarter-finals of the state playoffs last year.”

L.A.:  “What are some of the things you will need to work on this summer to improve your game?”

Jelly:  “My defense and continuing to work on my jump shot.”

L.A.:  “What’s the strongest part of your game?”

Jelly:  “My passing and dribbling.”

L.A.:  “Now,  I have been watching you play since your middle schools days and I was amazed at how well you saw the whole court and handled the ball at that age, how did you acquire those skills?”

Jelly:  “I practiced all of the time and played against the boys.”

L.A.:  “Who has been one of the toughest players you have had to guard, somebody who you said, man she is tough?”

Jelly:  (a long pause)

L.A.:  “Now were keeping it real, so if there wasn’t anybody out say it ….I feel you!”

Jelly:  “I can’t think of anybody, but I know that there is somebody out there, but not really in high school but in AAU.”

L.A.:  “Give me the names of a few of the college programs that you like their style of play and might be interested in attending?”

Jelly:  “North Carolina, LSU, Tennessee, UConn, and UGA.”

L.A.:  “Are you going to any camps this summer or have you already gone to some?”

Jelly:  “I might go to a couple, I was invited to an invitational only camp that I might also go to.”

L.A.:  “Is your high school team going to a camp this summer?”

Jelly:  “Yes, we are going to the Georgia Tech camp in July.”

L.A.:  “What was the last CD you brought and why?”

Jelly:  “I have an IPod so I don’t listen to a lot of CD’s, I have a lot of Rap and R&B on my IPod.”

L.A.:  “How does AAU ball differ from the regular high school season?”

Jelly:  “In AAU the teams are a lot tougher and it really prepares me for the regular season.”

L.A.:  “If there was anyone in the world you could meet right now who would it be?”
Jelly: “Michael Jordan”

L.A.:  “Who’s your favorite player?”

Jelly:  “This year it’s Amare Stoudemire and prior to this year it was Alan Iverson and Tracy McGrady”

L.A.:  “Who your favorite team?”
Jelly:  (laughing) ”The Phoenix Suns and Detroit Pistons because they are winning.”

L.A.:  “What’s your favorite food?”
Jelly:  ”Hot Wings”

L.A.:   “Nike, Reebok or Adidas?”
Jelly:    “Nike”

L.A.:  “Sean John or Roca-Wear?”
Jelly:    “Roca-Wear”

L.A.:  “Escalade, Denali, Corvette, Mercedes or Ferrari?”
Jelly:   “Mercedes”

L.A.:  “Good Luck, Jelly”
Jelly:  ”Ok, Thanks”
