Loop Lee Sports Holiday Classic - Championship Game

Freshman takes its Toles on Wesleyan

Parkview High School - Lilburn, GA

MVP Morgan Toles did a great job running the team and playing defense.
The fans who attended the Loop Lee Sports Holiday Classic at Parkview got a glimpse of some outstanding freshman and none shown brighter than St. Pius “Rookie” Morgan Toles, who grabbed MVP honors as the “Lady Golden Lions” turned away a good Wesleyan team to win the Championship.

Kelley Cain a 6-5 junior from St. Pius showed why she was a 4SHOT Hoops All-Classification 1st Team selection last season dominating the paint with 8 first-quarter points. Another 4SHOT Hoops All-Classification selection; 6-0 senior Le’Le’ LeSeur (a Bucknell signee) from Wesleyan did her best to counter Cain inside scoring 6 points of her own. A three-pointer by 5-8 Kristin Nash another good-looking St. Pius freshman gave the “Lady Golden Lions” a 14-10 lead at the end of the quarter.

In the 2nd quarter 5-8 senior Carolyn Whitney (a Georgia Southern signee) a 4th Team 4SHOT Hoops All-Classification section last season and 6-1 junior Sarah Delk (Wesleyan’s next big all-star) got busy combining for 9 points. 6-0 Krista Tate (one of the top sophomore’s in the state), who stared at Holy Innocents’ last year as a freshman scored 5 points for St. Pius to help keep the “Lady Wolves” at bay 24-23 at the half.

Wesleyan's Le’Le’ LeSeur led all scorers with 16 points.
LeSeur picked her game back up after a slow 2nd quarter helping Wesleyan to stay within striking distance. Wesleyan had plenty of opportunities to take the lead but missed several easy baskets much to the dismay of Head Coach Jan Azar. St. Pius also missed a lot of easy baskets in the quarter but fortunately for them 5-11 Molly McCarthy, 5-10 Jane Fleming and Cain made their shots as the “Lady Golden Lions” opened up a slim 38-33 lead.

Toles who was named the tourney’s MVP didn’t score a lot of points but she did a great job of running the offense and she did a nice job of slowing downing Wesleyan’s Carolyn Whitney. Down the stretch Tate and junior 5-7 Taylor Davidson combined to hit 10 of 11 free-throws as St. Pius went on to a 53-40 Championship Game victory.

On Monday night home-standing Parkview knocked-off Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy 58-41 to capture 3rd Place and Heritage beat Lamar County for 5th Place.
