L.A. "Keeping it Real" with SWD's Brandon Hazzard

Street Talk stopped by the Pro City High School Summer League earlier in the summer to get an early look at one of the smoothest shooters in the state; 6-1 senior Brandon Hazzard from Southwest DeKalb High School. After the game I got a chance to “Keep it Real” with the “Panthers” sharpshooter.

L.A.: “Brandon, last year the Panthers had a nice little run in the state playoffs before getting knocked off, what are you looking for from the team this year?”

Brandon: “More teamwork and just playing together.”

L.A.: “The last 2 years you have kind of played in the shadows of former SWD All-Star Labrez Barber, now this is your senior year and it’s your show, you are going to be the leader. What have you been doing to get yourself ready for the challenge?”

Brandon: “I have just working hard everyday and telling my teammates that we can get the job done if we work together.”

L.A.: “Now you have a sweet jumper, what have you been doing to perfect it?”

Brandon: “I shoot everyday but mostly it’s a God given talent.”

L.A.: “Now that the Pro city Summer League has ended are you playing any AAU ball?”

Brandon: “I wasn’t playing at first but I caught on Team Elite Sports and I may go to Las Vegas with them.”

L.A.: “What have you been working on during the summer to get yourself ready for the next level?”
Brandon: “I have been playing against college players and trying to practice like they do to get myself use to the things they do. Hopefully it will take my game to another level and it will show up during the high school season.”

L.A.: “What are the strongest and weakest parts of your game?”

Brandon: “I like to think that I play hard and I’m a good leader. People like to say I’m a shooter but I like to think of myself as more of a scorer. Those are the strongest parts of my game. I need to work on being more aggressive in my all-around game.”

L.A.: “Your game is smooth but when I watch you play you are kind of quiet out there on the floor. I don’t see a lot of emotion. Do the coaches ever tell you “come on you have to get a little more verbal”, its like you lead more by example.”

Brandon: “Yea, they tell me that all of the time, but sometimes when the game is on the line I will step out and say something to get my team going.”

L.A.:  “Who have been some of the most influential people in your life”?

Brandon: “My Moms and my sister, they always encourage me and have got my back all of the time. Also my team and my coaches.”

L.A.:  “What has been the most memorable moment of your career so far?
Brandon: “After riding the bench as a freshman I stepped up my game and started as a sophomore, that was real memorable for me.”

L.A.:  “What moments would you most like to forget so far in your career?

Brandon: “Loosing last year in the state playoffs. If I could take that back I would because I wanted that game so bad.”

L.A.:
“Who has been one of the toughest players you have had to guard?”

Brandon: “Probably Rashad Case (former Mays star now a freshman at Georgia State), he is so strong.”

L.A.:  “Without giving anything away, give me the names of some colleges that you would like to play for?”

Brandon: “I like Miami, Jacksonville State, NC. State, Wake Forest and Georgia.”

L.A.:   “Nike, Reebok or Adidas?”

Brandon: “Nike”

L.A.:  “Sean John or Roca-Wear?”

Brandon: “Roca-Wear”

L.A.:  “Escalade, Denali, Corvette, Mercedes or Ferrari?”

Brandon: “Corvette”

L.A.: “Halle Berry, Bianca or Janet Jackson?”

Brandon: “Halle Berry”

L.A.: “What was the last movie you went to see?”

Brandon: “War of the Worlds”

L.A.: “What was the last CD you brought and why?”

Brandon: “The last CD I brought was Lil Wayne, because to me that’s game time music.”

L.A.: “Brandon, I appreciate you taking the time to Keep It Real on Street Talk, Good Luck to you.”

Brandon: “Thanks”

If you want to “Keep it Real" on Street Talk …holla at me

This is “L.A.” … PEACE!
