4SHOT Sports Boys Hoops - 2006 South Cobb gets an easy win in county rivalry Four Eagles in double digit scoring too much for Warriors The first two minutes of the game really set the tone. Both teams came out firing….and missing. With six minutes remaining in the first period, the 13th ranked player in the 4SHOT Hoops Burning 50, Wesley Matthews finally got the scoring started and scored the first seven points for South Cobb. Both coaches could sense the nervous energy on the floor and sent subs in early to get some type of flow going. Thankfully, it worked. With a different energy on the floor, the pace picked up. Garrison Johnson sank a three with time winding down in the first period, but the Warriors’ Michael Morales quickly answered taking it the length of the floor to end a mundane first period. The Eagles held a slim three point lead at the end of one, 15-12 with most of the scoring taking place in the second half of the period. The second period got off to a better start as South Cobb’s Amiko Igrubia drained a triple from deep on the right wing to give the Eagles a six point lead. The Warriors were able to keep things close behind the scrappy play of their point guards, Morales and Kevin Lora. Morales turned it on in the second period to lead the Eagles in scoring.
The Eagles had an answer. With The third period wouldn’t go so well for the Warriors. The Eagles came out intense and intent on putting a hurting on the Warriors. After a deep three by Matthews and an and one opportunity for Johnson, North Cobb found themselves in a 15-point hole that would not be able climb out of. South Cobb certainly showed a level of intensity on defense that was not apparent in the first half. The Eagles’ fullcourt press frazzled the Warriors and turnovers led to easy points. The Eagles extended their lead to 24 points after third period action, 57-33. It was much of the same in the fourth period. The Eagles were in control and the Warriors could only play catch up from too far behind. The highlight of the period was a baseline drive Igrubia and a posterization of Notth Cobb big man, Matt Roark. Ibrubia went air born and kept rising until he flushed it down with Roark scrambling for an exit. Outscoring the Warriors by 17 in the third period, helped the Eagles secure an easy victory in this intra-county matchup. South Cobb finished off the Warriors 71-50. Scoring Recap North Cobb: Michael Morales led the Warriors with 11 points. Diontea Wright followed up with 8 points, while Tony Kadari finished with 7 points.
