Raider duo too much for Greyhounds

Rawlings reign from outside not enough

Macon Centreplex – Macon, GA

MVP Wille Brezial scores 2 for the Raiders.
The Greyhounds of Jones County and the Raiders of Northeast Macon High went head to head in the Macon Centreplex
to duel in the First Annual Mac-Town Shootout.  Both teams looked to come out and make a statement in the eight team shootout.

Jones County’s Joe Rawlings opened the game up with a three-pointer from deep but sloppy play would take over.  After the teams gained their composure, Northeast’s Willie Brezial would begin to take over.  With the only apparent mismatch on the floor, Brezial scored the Raiders first five points but took an early seat due to the quickness the Greyhounds put out on the floor.  And things went downhill.  Turnovers, errant passes, and poor shooting reigned for the majority of the first period, with the Raiders up by two, 11-9.

As the poor play continued, so did the solid play of the Raider big man, Brezial.  Breziel’s presence on the inside, along with the feisty play of Hugh Robinson, helped the Raiders go on an 8-1 run to open up the second period, to go up 17-12.  In a period of runs the Greyhounds, ignited by the return of sharp-shooter Rawlings, cut the lead to one but the Raiders lead extended to six at the half off of the play of Robinson, 24-18.  Brezial and Robinson combined to score all but two of the Raider first half points.

Joe Rawlings scores a game high 26 points in the loss.

The second half would start with much of the same play.  Rawlings opened things up with a three and the Raiders went back to Brezial.  The Raiders then pushed their lead up to double digits after a “and one” opportunity for Brezial.  With 14 points in the third, Rawlings brought the Greyhounds within four to end the period, 41-37.

As the fourth period got underway, the Raiders increased their intensity along with their lead.  Rawlings, who finished with a game high 24 points, did his best to keep the Greyhounds afloat, but Brezial and the Raiders were a too much.  Robinson compiled 17 points but Breziel led the way for the Raiders with 18 points in victory.

Final Score:  Northeast 59 – Jones County 53
