L.A. "Keeping It Real" with Karl Teal

The word on the street is that the “Pirates” from Stone Mountain H.S. have one of the toughest PG’s in the state, but nobody really knows a lot about him, well now you know CUZ, because that’s what I do…get all of the Street Talk, the baller in question is 5-11 Sr. Karl Teal and in “Keeping It Real” I got a chance to “Holla at a Player”.

L.A.:  “Who have been some of the most influential people in your life so far”?

Karl: “Well it’s been my dad and my Lil’ Big Brother but most importantly my moms. My mom is a person who will come to my games no matter where it is or how bad the weather is that she has to drive in.”

L.A.: “How long have you actually been playing basketball?”

Karl: “Dang, WOW!!! Since I was 5 years old right after little league baseball.”

L.A.:  “What has been one of the most disappointing moments or times so far in your career?

Karl: “Not making it to the State playoffs last year when we had the best talent in Dekalb County.”

L.A.:  “What about some of the high points in your career so far?
Karl: “Beating up on some of the top AAU teams this summer in almost every state.”

L.A.:   “What do you think you need to do to get yourself ready for the next level of basketball?”

Karl: “Get my work ethic much better than what it is because I know that it takes hard work, determination, and also dedication to make it to the next level and if I work on that now, I won’t have any problems.”

L.A.: “What position would you like to play at the next level?”

Karl: “The big PG. To me that’s the biggest man on the court, it’s the heart inside the PG. “

L.A.: “What is the strongest part of your game?”

Karl: “L. A. you already know its dat KILLA DEFENSE.”

L.A.:  “What type of personal and or team goals have you set for this season?”
Karl: “Well my personal goals are to 15 ppg and 10 apg. My team goal is simply just to get a ring. Well I mean to put the ring on because 4A knows that Stone Mountain is going to take it.”

L.A.:  “Who has been one of the toughest players you have had to guard?”
Karl: “No other than Frank Davis from East Hall. You cannot stop him from shooting and his players set the hardest screens so you can’t get to him but I did.”

L.A.: “Tell me something about yourself that people wouldn’t know by just looking at you?”
Karl: “My patience is short. If you say you are going to do something for me and you don’t do it quick enough I’ll bug you until you hurry up and do it that same day. That’s just me being me.”

L.A.: “Do you have a nickname?”
Karl: “Yep, T. J. It stands for Teal Jr.”

L.A.: “What AAU Team did you play for this summer and how does summer ball (AAU) differ from high school ball?”

Karl: “I played with the Atlanta All-Stars with Michael Moynihan (Centennial), Aaron Parr (St. Pius X), and Ty Anderson (Oconee County).

L.A.:  “If you could meet anyone in the world who would it be and why?”
Karl: “Melyssa Ford. You can tell me why L. A. (lol)”

L.A.:  “I’m going to throw out some word comparisons and I want you to choose one, Nike, Reebok or Adidas?”
Karl: “Just do it”, Nike”

L.A.:  “Escalade, Denali, Corvette, Mercedes or Ferrari?”
Karl: “Denali; but you forgot one “My Chevy””

L.A:  “What’s your favorite food?”
Karl: “Chicken Fingers”

L.A.:  “Who’s your favorite player?”
Karl: “Dwayne Wade”

L.A.:  “Who’s your favorite team?”

Karl: “Miami Heat”

L.A.: “What’s your favorite TV Show and movie?”
Karl: “Martin and Four Brothers”

L.A.: ”What type of music do you listen to and who is your favorite performer?”
Karl: “Well I listen to a lot of underground music but my favorite performer is Young Jeezy.”

L.A.: “What do you like to do when you are not playing basketball?”

Karl: “Chillin with my girl, talking to my mom, spending time with my dad, and just thinking about how I can make myself better not only in basketball but as a person.”

L.A.: “Thanks for taking the time for a little Street Talk and good luck!”
Karl: “Nah L.A, Thank You”
